Well, when his hand was let go of, Rhys opened his eyes to look, to see if anything happened. There was a frown on his mentor's face and he had a heavy feeling in his chest because of it. A little more than before. HE didn't really realize that could be possible but he supposed there was always worse.
Either a burning or freezing? He would like to take neither of those things, if he got the choice. Who would like to feel either of those things running through them, whether happy news or not? It wasn't going to dampen his resolve, though. He couldn't pull away now, when they were so close to the truth.
Again, the fledgling Tremere watched the older one work, watched those flames light and burn out, leaving the bowl empty again. At first, he felt absolutely nothing, and wondered over if it worked, green eyes watching Amadeus' face. It seemed like he was looking at him forever, as if minutes were just ticking by without a single thing changing. It was only moments, he knew that logically, somewhere, but then something started. At first, he didn't know if it was a burn or ice, but after that brief start, it was as someone threw the switch, all at once, and they had their answer.
"N-No... no..." Was that the sound of his teeth chattering? He'd never been this cold in his entire life. If this had been something he'd felt when he'd been human, he would have been dead in seconds, most likely. The feeling washed over him, hard and sudden, and he fell to his knees, wrapping his arms around himself as if that would help warm him, even a little bit. Fingers tight over his skin. He didn't know if he whimpered or screamed as it over took him, as he fell, but by the time it leeched out and eventually stopped hurting as much, they had their answer. He was still trembling, still feeling as if he'd just had literal ice in his veins, but it was over.
Was he crying? He didn't know. He couldn't even feel his fingertips right now.
