Yes, he had said that but as time had gone on with Amadeus inside of a burning, collapsing building, it had looked less and less likely. No one could blame him for being afraid. And it was too lucky that his lover had reappeared when he did. Otherwise, there'd be a lot more truly dead people until someone managed to kill him in turn. He wasn't sure there was another option at this point.
Alright, for that, Amadeus got a punch in the shoulder - he held back but... Just enough to not be overly damaging. "Don't. That is a fucking difficult promise to keep when there's a burning building falling on you, you ass." And then he gathered Amadeus up in his arms and held him crushingly tight. Ariel couldn't cry - he didn't have enough in him to do that at the moment - but he was shaking and he wasn't sure that was going to stop any time soon.
