Hunter was still surprised by every kind gesture Rachel paid to him, not because he didn't think she was the sort of person who would do something like that, but because he didn't feel remotely like he deserved it. He followed her when she got up, and hesitated a second when they entered her room, feeling a little like he shouldn't be there, in her space like that.
But once she sat, he forced himself to relax. He grabbed the chair that was tucked under her desk and swung it around to face her, sitting down and setting his beer aside. He tried to laugh at Rachel's comment, but it just made his guts twist up inside him, fresh guilt flooding into his heart.
"What, uh. What did she tell you about the other night?" he asked, the words feeling sticky in his throat.
