Everything in Caitlen's body hurt her if it were possible even her hair hurt her, after everything they had been through. When she and Charles decided to go for a hike the sky was clear and the sun was out, but that didn't last long at all. The moment they got to the lookout spot the clouds started to form and Caitlen wondered if they should head back, but she talked herself, and Charles, out of it as it was very rare to see severe storms on the island. What Caitlen didn't know, as she had missed the news report and all the alerts, was that there was, in fact, severe storms coming and her decision to ignore all the warning signs the sky was throwing at her would be a very painful mistake.
When it was clear the storm was not a false alarm, Caitlen suggested they find some kind of cover until it passed. There was no way the two, no matter how well they knew the forest paths, they would be able to make it back to the beach or the house before it hit. That plan was a great one, that is until the rain was so hard they could barely see in front of them and while trying to cross the top of the falls to get down below Caitlen slipped and took a more direct route by falling into the water and getting pulled under by the now rushing current.
As the current pulled her under, Caitlen tried to fight it, but there was just no way and she was gone. Unable to grab on to anything, her head bouncing off rocks as she was dragged past them Caitlen went over the falls and slammed into the pool beneath. She could feel her bones cracking, her head felt like someone had taken a very large bat to it and it was taking everything in her to pull her small body above water.
While everything had happened to her, Caitlen had lost all sight of Charles. Weak and broken she called out for him. "Charles?" she called out while trying to tread water. Though the pain was intense she knew she had to fight, she had to find Charles.
