Characters: Nymphadora Tonks and Ernie Macmillan Date: December 30th, 1999 Location: St. Mungo's Rating: PG Summary: Tonks is sent to investigate the death of a marked Death Eater. Following standard procedure, she needs to talk to his Healer. Status: Complete
The death of a marked Death Eater, no matter how high up in the ranks he or she was, was a big deal. The Death Eaters as an organization were still tightly knit group at the core of the infrastructure of the Ministry of Magic, and if one of them fell, it had to be followed up on. This policy was now strictly enforced, an order handed down by Voldemort by way of his puppet Minister of Magic. Sometimes Death Eaters would ivnestigate it themselves, but with the recent rise in rebel activity, it was being handed to Aurors for fear any Death Eater death was potentially murder.
Tonks got shafted with this case. She didn't want it, but saw that perhaps getting to help the Death Eaters could fair well. They trusted her with getting to the bottom of it, which showed 'Naledi' had made a good impression. It sickened her and excited her at the same time: she was good at what she did, so much so the Death Eaters liked her to some degree.
Her first duty was to speak to the coroner. The post-mortem, which Tonks had to witness, revealed little surprises. However, cause of death was ruled cariac arrest. The coroner was surprised, as all though it wasn't unheard of, it was rare for Dragon Pox to cause a heart attack.
Next step was to talk to the Healer on duty, which she had been informed was a man by the name of Ernest Macmillan. With a mildly suspicious cause of death, he was the one that would have last treated the man before he went off and bit it. She had made sure the Healer had been informed of her arrival well ahead of time, and when she made it up to his floor, she immediately moved to the reception desk so they would page Ernie. She wanted to get this over with.
