What Cormac had originally planned for tonight was a little different than what he ended up going with. He’d been planning both ideas for a long while, but since he didn’t end up completely finishing his project just due to lack of time on his hands, he had to go with plan b. Which, in all honesty, he was pretty happy with. He’d booked the table two months ago, and had even arranged a private tasting for her before dinner started. All in all, he’d dropped a considerable amount of coin to make it happen, but she was worth it. More than worth it. And he’d do it again in a heart beat. All he wanted to do was make her happy and give her something really special. He’d never been with a woman this long before, and he didn’t want it to stop. Yes, to some level he knew that she’d be happy with whatever it was that he’d planned. She wasn’t exactly high maintenance, yet another thing he loved about her, but he really just wanted to go above and beyond. Show her that he was still 100% committed and he wasn’t going anywhere. Yes the whole thing with her ex annoyed the hell out of him. But, it was slowly starting to sink in that it wasn’t her fault, and that in the long run, it was pretty harmless. Besides, he wasn’t even mad at either of them. Truth was, he was jealous. And to some degree he couldn’t help but think that maybe Roper would be better in the long run, since, he didn’t seem to have the problems that Mac did at times. However, he was determined to just let it go right now. Show her an amazing time. And enjoy the fact that he wasn’t freaking out about being with someone for this long. Not in the slightest as a matter of fact, in truth, he was looking forward to another year with her. Which, probably said more than anything since...before Alicia, there was no way in hell he would have lasted this long with someone. “So, we got a little bit before our tables ready, why dinna we sneak down the way and have a little fun, yeah?” he said in a low voice with a laugh in his voice, mostly teasing, as he came up behind her and put his long arms around her kissing the back of her head. ***** Alicia wasn’t really sure what the plan was, or really what was happening. They’d been together a year now which was amazing, surprising and actually Alicia was still stunned by it sometimes. She loved him, she loved being with him, it was still surprising that they’d gotten together and were actually in a serious relationship for a year now. Everything that happened with Strat had utterly amazed her and confused her, she hadn’t expected it and it wasn’t like she could actually control it. It had been really weird, but it did remind her that she had really loved Strat in the past but not now, that was very different, extremely different from how she and Mac worked together, he got her in a way that sometime surprised her. However that insane day she was ‘in love’ with strat again she told Mac about it, she wanted to be honest with him about it because that was important to her they should be honest with each other. Especially because she didn’t ever see this ending, she didn’t want it to end, that would terrify her. Alicia nodded as she leaned into him not knowing exactly what he had planned for the night, but whatever it was she was sure it’d be interesting. She leaned against him as his arm wrapped around her, gaining comfort from the simple touch. “Okay, but don’t tell me you expect us to have a grape fight tonight.” She teased. ~~~ Cormac smirked a little bit as he shifted slightly, as he leaned down a bit to rest his head on top of hers slightly. “Why must yah always ruin my fun?” he teased, not being particularly serious about that. Because, well, he’d dressed up. And it takes a lot for him to dress up, and he really just wanted tonight to be special. The only thing that stopped him from going all out, was the fact that his beard had grown back in, for the playoffs, but even then it wasn’t to the point where he had to debate if trimming it was bad luck or not. He couldn’t help it, really, Cormac could be very superstitious at times. “Speaking of fun...did yah enjoy that last bit?” he wondered as he stood up a bit, he didn’t really show it, but his stomach was a little bit jittery at the moment. Since he thought she would have liked the private wine tasting and all. He hoped at least. Alicia knew way more about wine than he did, kind of like he knew more about whiskey than she did, but still. He’d tried really hard and the guy who had been showing them around and letting them try stuff had been friendly enough. Kept eyeing Cormac like he might accidentally break something, but he ignored it, he was used to it. He just kept a small smile on his face the whole time and enjoyed watching Alicia throughout it. Besides, she was gorgeous, it was hard not to want to watch her. He tried to sneak a glance at his watch, wondering what the hell was taking so long with their table, but trying not to show it, because....he just wanted to have a nice relaxing evening...or try to at least. ***** Laughing Alicia just shrugged a little bit. “I wouldn’t say that, although your Mum might kill me if I was responsible for you ruining the one nice outfit you own.” She teased right back. Alicia liked to tease him when he dressed up, she thought he looked great, but it would be weird if she didn’t tease him for it. After all she knew that he only did it either when he had to or when he felt like he really should, and tonight was one of the should nights and possibly want to kind of nights but really Alicia wouldn’t have cared if he’d shown up not as dressed up. She didn’t worry about things like that really. “I did.” Alicia said smiling. “I think they should age their Cab a little bit longer, it needed more time to mature and really pull in the deep wood notes that would really make it shine more.” Alicia said. She was very knowledge about wine among other things. Alicia had spent a lot of time learning it, studying it and knowing the soft differences in notes and scents. “Suppose the table is almost ready?” ~~~ “Hey, I have other nice outfits.” he said with a fake serious face and tone. “I just so happened to replace that vest that got a little messed up the last time I wore it.” Which had been New Years Eve and he’d worn it with his suit pants and a nice button up...but...well...sometimes things happened. And in that case, he’d gotten slightly singed when he’d accidentally gotten to close to some indoor fireworks that someone had decided to light off. Oh yeah, ‘burn the giant’ had been a wonderful game. How the hell Alicia curbed his temper, he’d never know. And for that matter...he really wasn’t questioning it either. Because...the moment he started to question it, the moment he was sure it’d all fall apart. Cormac listened as she talked about what she’d thought about their selections and nodded a little bit trying to understand what she was talking about. In a way, he could understand a bit since he could analyze whiskey like that, but wine he felt was another world in a way. “It all either tasted like squashed grapes or like church wine. And then I feel guilty for drinking it.” he said teased her with a playful look on his face. Oh yeah, Cormac McLaggen had so much guilt about drinking. Clearly. And if anyone believed that, he had a great piece of property to sell you at a real good price. “Uhh...yeah.” he said checking his watch. “Wonder what the hold up is.” he said reluctantly letting her go for a moment. “I should probably go have a chat yeah.” he paused. “An actual chat not a, er, man-chat.” which was what he’d been lately calling, put your arm around another bloke and threatening to cut off all of his oxygen. Cormac knew he was not a good man sometimes. And yet, it came in handy at times. **** “Uh huh, I think you’re down to one now…. And that vest could have been fixed.” Sure, with taking it to someone that actually knew what they were doing when really buying something new would probably be less work and a lot better. It was one thing Alicia always found shocking, that one could tell the notes in one thing and not the other, however she wasn’t going to push wine on him or force him to like it, she just found it interesting, she could pretty much pick up notes and figure out flavors in almost anything. Then again she’d grown up with it, wine, food, and learned to with beer, whiskey, even vodkas had different flavors based on where they were made, what kind and of course the water. The water made such a huge difference in most spirits and beers. Wine not exactly as much it was more about terroir, the soil and going into the depths of the ground and the climate. The climate of course mattered in anything made or produced, scotch particullary as well. “Squashed grapes…” She repeated with an adoring smirk. “Do you want me to go, sometimes honey gets a little bit more done.” She teased. ~~~ “Is it really such a bad thing that ’m down to one?” he playfully wondered, and really, it wasn’t like he’d said something like that before. The whole thing to him would be a pain either way. It was hard to find clothing that fit him properly in everyday attire, adding in the nicer stuff...well...it just always seemed like such a daunting task. “I think ’m just going to steal da’s stuff and hope it fits.” Though, chances were...they probably wouldn’t. Pants, maybe, but Cormac was a lot broader in the chest than his father was. “Okay fine, guess that just means ’ll have to steal yah away for an afternoon and then take yah out to a nice dinner to apologize for acting like a five year old during the whole thing.” he said with a chuckle to his voice. Thankfully, Alicia knew the difference between Cormac’s stubborn reputation and the actual limits of his stubbornness. Truth was, he’d probably just try to get the job done as quickly as possible and not say a whole lot in the process. “Squashed grapes.” he confirmed with a nod of his head. “Hey, professional squisher of grapes was my back up career if the Falcons hadn’t decided to give me a shot.” he teased her. Truth was, he had no back up plan, it had been quidditch or....he wasn’t sure what. He had been kind of determined about the whole thing. “I mean, logically, destroying small villages probably doesn’t pay nearly as well. And ’d really rather not live in a cave.” he was smirking up a storm right now. “Uhh...yeah, that might be best.” he actually admitted. Cormac had been on his best behavior of late, he’d been trying to so hard. Which, had not really been easy as of late. There had been so many things he’d wanted to just go off and go rage monster on , but he hadn’t. He’d been good, so good. Which either meant he was growing up, or it was so pent up inside of him that someone was going to get seriously hurt in his next match. He was not naturally a calm man. But he wanted so desperately to not get bumped from the Nat team because of behavioral problems. So...yeah...better not risk it, send in Alicia. She was a lot better at the honey thing than he was most of the time. ***** Rolling her eyes was really all that Alicia could do in those situations. She figured it was best to roll her eyes than say anything else sometimes. Mostly because what could she say? Not much other than continue on the joke and she was actually kind of getting hungry which was sort of making her a little bit distracted. "And I wouldn't date a guy who lives in a cave, even I have limits." She teased. Although it would actually depend on the cave. Some caves were probably pretty cool. It did make her think back to the conversation about when he'd asked her to live with him and neither one of them actually wanted to give up their homes. That was something she'd actually thought a lot about lately. Alicia didn't really know where things were going to go given the possible future issue. They'd been dating a year a now, managed to finally admit they loved each other, but still it seemed unlikely either of them would cave on the next step. "Alright, I'll go." She said getting on her toes and kissing his cheek. It wasn't a big deal to her. She didn't mind and she knew a smile would get them a lot further, besides she loved wine and she was pretty sure the place had figured that out. ~~~~ “See, it all works out the way it’s supposta.” he said with an easy grin on his face. Yeah, thinking about the living situation was something he’d been thinking a lot about as well. But he hadn’t really talked about it, because, that’s just not how he did things. Instead he’d just more or less finished fixing up his kitchen completing the very last of the home improvements he’d started when he’d bought the house in the first place. He’d basically rebuilt it from the ground up, something he was extremely proud of. And yeah, the kitchen had been in decent shape which is why it had taken him so bloody long to actually do it. But, either way he figured he was prepared. He had hoped it’d be enough to maybe entice her to move in once he finally revealed it to her, or if not, well, it would at least add value to the house if he had to sell it. Though, he was starting to think a third option of finding a place together was going to have to be the option. The one thing he outright would refuse to do in that option was to live in England. But...that was more political and stuff than anything. To which, he just didn’t want to think about right now, because the subject tended to make him rather angry. And he didn’t want to be angry tonight. He just wanted to focus on Alicia and have fun, and enjoy the fact that in a year, he was still somehow making her happy and hadn’t fucked it up too badly. “Yer the best.” he said bending down a little bit as she kissed him on the cheek, and then watched her go try and figure it out. The hostess was standing at the podium just really chatting with another girl not really paying much attention to much of anything when Alicia walked up. She waited finished up what she was saying to the other girl and then turned to face Alicia. “What can I help you with?” she said in a somewhat friendly tone sounding more tired than anything. **** Smiling Alicia spoke quickly to the hostess she managed to make it clear that if they didn’t get their table than they were leaving and that just wouldn’t be good for any of them. So eventually they finally were lead to the table. As Alicia sat down she smiled a rather cold smile but managed a friendly sounding thank you. “I suppose she just doesn’t really want to be here.” She said shaking her head. Alicia really wasn’t that worried about any of it though. “So…” Alicia said as she reached for the menu to start taking a look at exactly what was on the menu. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t starving. ~~~ “Guess not. Brilliantly done, love.” he said sounding rather impressed by that. There was no way that he’d be able to have handled that and still be allowed within the grounds. At least not tonight at any rate. Sure he’d try, but truth was, Cormac McLaggen was not a very patient man. Nor a subtly threatening one. Wasn’t really his style. “So...happy anniversary?” he said after he sat down and tried to find the steak-y-est thing he could on the menu, because he was always starving. Even after he just ate, he was always hungry. Pains of just how much he did work out and all of that. Or so he told people at any rate. “Maybe next you you won’t actually have to win me to see me all dolled up like this.” he teased her as he reached over to take her hand and then kissed it gently, a rather large boyish smile on his face the whole time. *** |
