Lucas was pretty sure that shopping was not his strong suit, actually he sucked at it. He hated it and he would prefer to do anything but shop. He did however want to get something small and nice of Emilia, they'd been dating a couple of months now and he was happy, really happy. He had no idea when their future kids would show up that he'd actually be this happy about well… dating. "I don't know Cass…." He said as his good friend was holding up something as a possible gift to Emilia. Lucas had roped her into helping him, actually he'd just asked her once nicely and it seemed she had no problem actually helping him out. They'd been at it for a while now, or at least it had felt like a while to Lucas. It was actually only about 30 minutes. "I just don't know…" He added frowning slightly. *** Cassie had been surprised when Lucas asked her to go shopping with him for a gift for Emilia, but it was a good kind of surprised. And she was honestly happy to see her friend so happy with someone, and she loved that it was Emilia because Emilia was just a sweetheart and Lucas deserved that. She smiled when she saw his frown, putting down the item she’d picked up and moving over to another table. “Wipe that frown off your face right now Lucas. We’ll find the perfect thing I promise. What kind of present are you looking for anyway? I know it’s for Emilia but more information is always better for this kind of thing,” she said looking back towards him as she ran her hand over a book that was on the table. *** There weren’t many people he felt comfortable asking this kind of thing. Clover was on the list as one of his best friends but he also felt like he might need help from someone who didn’t play Quidditch and well, Cassie always seemed for lack of a better word, more female in the traditional sense, and he meant it in all the best ways possible, he just wasn’t good about thinking about this kind of stuff at all. In fact he felt awkward about it. “I don’t know, something nice, something that says I like where things are going, guess not too over the top, but something nice… Something with baking? But she might have everything already…” ~~~ “Something nice but not too over the top,” Cassie said thinking out loud as she looked around the store. This wasn’t her area of expertise at all but she wanted to help him. “What about a book to write her recipes in? She might already have one but I think that’s one thing that it’s okay to have extras of and having them written down could come in handy in the future.” she asked, just suggesting the first thing that came to mind. Even if he didn’t go for it it was an idea right? *** “That’s not a bad idea.” Lucas said thinking about it. “I mean chefs always have more stuff to write down and ideas and things. That could be a really good thing for her.” He said as he started to pick up some notebooks. Cassie might not be the expert but she was ahead of him and she tended to seem to have good taste so Lucas would trust that. “I don’t know which one.” He said picking up a couple of different ones. “This one, or this one.” One was pink with cupcakes the other looked more like a rustic farmhouse style one. ~~~ Cassie walked over to see the notebooks he was looking at, thinking about which one she thought Emilia would like more. The pink with cupcakes was cute but for some reason she thought the farmhouse one was nicer. “I’d go with the farmhouse. The cupcakes is cute but the farmhouse one - I like it better.” *** Shrugging he nodded. "Farmhouse it is." Lucas said putting the other one down and heading towards the register. "I didn't know shopping could be so hard…" Lucas told her as he started to pay for it. "Hey, thanks for your help." ~~~ Cassie gave him a bright smile when he thanked her. “Anytime Lucas. It was kind of fun getting to spend time with you,” she told him honestly. “And I liked helping. You and Emilia seem happy together and I like seeing you happy if you didn’t know that already.” *** Lucas laughed. “It was good spending time with you too, feels like I don’t get to see you as much anymore.” Lucas said with a shrug. Cassie had been in his year and house in school and he’d always liked her company, so it was nice to see her a little more. “She’s amazing.” He said smiling. “I don’t think I would have noticed as much if it hadn’t been for the future kids showing up, but I’m glad they did.” He said as his smile turned a little dopey. ~~~ That was a look Cassie had never expected to see on her friend’s face, that dopey smile and she started to comment on it and then she caught sight of her watch. “Lucas I’m really sorry to just run off but I didn’t realize what time it was. I’ve got a meeting with my agent and I still need to pop home and pick something up,” she told him. “I really hope Emilia likes it,” she added. She reached out to squeeze Lucas’ arm lightly. “And I promise next time we hang out I won’t have to run off for a meeting.” She gave him another smile and headed for the door, turning to wave before leaving the shop. |
