Who: Cormac McLaggen and Alicia Spinnet
What: Awkward Times
Where: Diagon Alley
When: Early evening
Rating: TBD
Honestly, he knew why people thought of him the way that they did. He knew that he had a temper and that it wasn't exactly quiet when it went off so people tended to remember things like that instead of when he did something completely the opposite. Like right now for example. He'd just gotten off of work and had a round with the lad he'd been working with today. The kid was a good kid, of course he was still sort of scared of Cormac, but he got that. And okay, he was sort of proud of that too. But, the way he saw it, the baddies out there couldn't see him as some big softie. It was legitimately a form of safety for him. People feared him, they didn't go after him, his family, or his friends. That's all there was to it, really. But, like with this kid, Cormac could show that he had a 'softer' side once in a great while, human side even.
He'd treated the kid for a good job done and then after he'd headed out into the alleyway just to see what was going on. It was now officially the weekend, so there had to be something going on. Quidditch wasn't until tomorrow, and Mac already had his tickets so it wasn't like he had to go bug people he knew for tickets. Well, everyone but Alicia, since the whole point was to surprise her by showing up. He had a pretty funny plan in the back of his head, and he would even get to pull his badge out and everything. The hope would be to just laugh, and have a good time, maybe get over some of this...weird awkwardness that had just sort of started.
But, again, that was tomorrow. And now he needed to worry about tonight. Cormac had paused in front of one of the other pubs wondering if he shouldn't stop in to see what was going on when he felt a little tug on his pant leg. He looked down and little girl, no more than five, was holding onto one of his pant legs and looking up at him with big blue eyes, and she looked scared. Cormac sighed a little bit and stooped down so that he could be about as close to eye level as he could with the little girl.
"You okay?" he asked in a kind voice and the girl shook her head and clutched onto her stuffed bear.
"You're hib-wizard?" she said with a little bit of a sob as she pointed to the badge that was still hanging off of his belt loop...Cormac was slightly impressed that the little girl had seen it.
"I am...are you lost?" The little girl nodded.
"Okay, what's your name honey?"
"Gabby." she said looking around a little bit.
"Were you with your ma, or da?" Cormac started to ask her a couple of questions, slowly, and trying his best to look around and figure out where the tot had come from. Eventually, he decided he couldn't see much of anything from down here so he stood up and picked the little girl up setting her on his hip as he looked around, about ready to take her back to the Ministry satellite office. It wasn't long after that then the mom came rushing towards her. The girl squealed with joy and almost jumped out of Cormac's arms into her mother's arms. They talked for a little bit after the mother thanked Mac for the hundredth time for finding her daughter. Apparently, she'd taught her daughter to look for the badges like her father had worn if she'd gotten into trouble. Smart woman...even a bit of a M.I.L.F...but Mac stopped himself there, because it was just...wrong.
As he turned to part he spotted Alicia not far from where he'd been standing.
"That's not what it looked like." he picked up his hat, messed up his hair and put his cap back on. He wasn't sure what he meant by that, but at least it covered a few possibilities?
