Paperwork. There was always paperwork.
Wade had shoved it at the desk with little said. The police liked to have the jobs signed off on, particularly when it was a case where city property was what they were cleaning. A five car pileup on the Central Artery wasn't an easy job in the best of times and this had been three in the afternoon.
The glass had shattered everywhere.
He groaned and stretched as he stood outside the front doors. It was easier if he didn't think of the crumpled metal as people. If he didn't attach the dangling dice that had been ripped from the rearview mirror to the blood that had stained the concrete. Or the flecking paint from the white Ford to a woman that had only limped from the wreckage when she should have been killed.
In fact, most days, it was easier not to think about any of it but to let his mind drift. That was why Wade was good at the job. He didn't let himself do anything but dream.
