WHO: Eisen and Dominic WHAT: Eisen is sending a text he should not be sending, Dom walks in. DOES HE GET CAUGHT? WHERE: Eisen's office. WHEN: 04/23, early evening. RATING: Low. STATUS: In progress.
Eisen was, in a word, obsessed. That clue, and the fact that it was common knowledge now that Bianca's murder didn't represent Lavinia, jumped into his mind at the randomest of times. Could the killer be someone who wanted to think that he knew his Shakespeare when he really had no idea? Or could they be trying to throw people off their trail by leaving that kind of clue? It would probably be easier if there weren't so few clues. The boyfriend, Plante, was so adamant in his claim that he didn't do it… not that Eisen thought for a second that he would admit it if he had, but he was either really convincing or truly innocent.
The fact of the matter was, Eisen wasn't convinced that they were after the right guy. It would be different if he felt like he could come forward with these types of things and be taken seriously, but even when he had a solid point, it was cast aside like it was nothing.
Normally, Eisen wouldn't even be considering going against a direct order. Normally, he wouldn't be struggling so heavily with doing what he knew he should and just letting it go, leaving it alone. But this… was not a normal case, and this was not a normal circumstance. Answers were right there, and having answers so close within his reach and not being able to go after them always bothered him.
He slid his smartphone from his pocket and cued up a text message to Rory. He'd ask casually. Nothing to do with the case, but he'd ask his friend to explain Lavinia's death to him a little bit more. He'd call it curiosity. He'd just been reading Riverside, so that was a simple enough explain-away.
Hey Rory, can I ask you a question? he typed first, then waited for a response before sending another. Can you explain Lavinia's death to- was as far as he got before he heard footsteps outside of his door, and tossed his phone into one of his desk drawers, slowly pushing it closed.
