Who: Danny and Gio What: Gio is trying to work, but the equipment in the lab is having issues. Danny comes to the rescue. When: Wednesday, July 20; mid-morning Where: BPD lab Rating: Low
It was an unusually quiet morning in the lab, and though Gio didn't find himself alone as he pulled up the DNAView software at his workstation, he wasn't bumping elbows with anyone trying to claw their way out from beneath a heavy workload.
Since he'd started on part time, most people seemed glad to see him. It wasn't just because Gio knew the DNA analysts from his internship; it was also because they'd really needed an extra pair of hands in that part of the lab. DNA was important in almost all cases, and they didn't just service their local area. Precincts from all over Massachusetts shipped DNA samples to the BPD since their lab was state of the art.
Or it was supposed to be, anyway. Mid-typing something in to pull up a sample he'd entered into the database not too long ago, the touchscreen froze. Gio waited, checked his watch, and waited some more. When a full minute passed and nothing seemed to be happening, he tapped the screen to see if anything would move. Nothing. He released a frustrated breath and punched random buttons on the screen to see if lowering himself to its level would help matters, but still nothing.
When another tech came over to help and neither of them could figure it out, Gio decided it would be prudent to call tech support, and he listened to the phone ring and he gazed at the frozen screen he was supposed to be working on. About three rings in and without warning, much to Gio's surprise, the screen suddenly came to life, looking like some phantom button masher was running its invisible hands over it. All of Gio's rogue taps from before were going through at once, and because of that, when Danny answered the call, the first thing she'd hear would be someone muttering, "Oh, shit."
