Steve felt a lot of the nerves dissipate as he led Peggy into the kitchen. He gestured for her to take a seat at the breakfast counter while he busied himself with filling the teapot and setting it on the stove to boil. They didn't have any loose tea leaves, but he had Twinings, which had always been very popular among the British forces, if he remembered correctly. He pulled a variety pack from the cabinet and set it on the counter, so that she could choose which she'd like.
"I know this is probably very disorienting. It was for me," he said quietly, keeping his gaze focused on the counter. "SHIELD did what they could, but I guess no one checked the specific dates because when I woke up, it was to a ball game playing on the radio that I'd been to." It was on the tip of his tongue to include that he'd been with Bucky to that game, but he didn't want to talk about that just yet. He wanted to focus on catching up with Peggy, the Peggy he remembered and never wanted to forget. "Ran into Times Square, seventy years in the future. That was an eyeopener."
He managed a small smile, raising his gaze to meet her's. "What've you been up to? Have you started founding SHIELD yet, with Howard?" Steve knew she'd started at the SSR, no doubt giving them all kinds of hell, but eventually she'd go on to create SHIELD. It had been an amazing legacy, one that was marred by the growth of HYDRA in the shadows. It had hurt him, to burn her legacy to the ground, but it had to be done. The price of freedom was always high, and it was a burden he would gladly carry to make sure freedom was respected.
