Katniss + OTA; Right at 17:00, TBA
If anyone had been been monitoring the gate, they would have noticed that Katniss had likely been the first person to go through it and since then, she had returned to the city maybe twice. The forest had always felt like home to her, even the ones in arenas or outside of Thirteen so the fact she ran to it first wouldn't have been a surprise to anyone who knew her. Out there, Katniss knew how to blend in and she respected the balance that existed and it made her feel peaceful. So when this gate appeared and the jungle opened up beyond it, Katniss went through it without question. Outside of the city she felt like she could be herself because there were no rules in here.
While the trees were different than what she had known from back home, the Quarter Quell had foliage like this, exotic and foreign and dangerous. Katniss had a feeling deep in the pit of her stomach that this wouldn't stay quiet like it had been forever and she had been right. Some time on a Tuesday a voice listed off a bunch of complicated words she didn't know the meaning of but had a feeling they were living things. That was the first time she came back to the city and gathered more bland food, breads and dried fruits and water, before going back in. If any of the animals listed were predators, she didn't want to draw them to her.
Katniss remained in the jungle for a little while after that, but the announcement of an "expedition" made her leave again. She didn't like the idea, especially once she had been unfortunate enough to see the biggest lizard-like thing she had ever seen in her entire life run through the trees. At first she thought it was some kind of horrible Mutt but some of the people on that network she had chosen to ignore up to this point seemed to know what these things were. If that was true then she had no idea why they would want to go out here. Out of curiosity, Katniss darted out of the gate prior to the meeting time and walked out from where she had hid when people started to arrive. Slung over her back she had her bow and the quiver rested around her hips. She had only used one of her arrows since going into the jungle when she fired at one of the smaller lizards and noted that it smelled like chicken when it exploded. Besides that, Katniss had a small makeshift pouch she hade mad out of part of a curtain, where she kept a few of the coins that had been left over and she still wore her black armored suit.
Studying the growing group, Katniss couldn't help but notice the one man who was addressing them all partly because he was the loudest but also because of the suit he was wearing. It wasn't hard to recognize it as armor, but it was more advanced than anything she had ever seen. She wondered if Beetee had ever thought of something like that though she couldn't help but think the color was stupid and impractical. She wouldn't be surprised if it caught the attention of everything in the jungle. Leaning down and picking up one of the objects the man had put by the wall, she turned it over in her hands. There was nothing on it that gave her any real idea of what it was but she clipped it to her belt, hiding it behind the quiver. Even if he was giving them out, it still felt like stealing to her.
Moving back to the edge of the gate, Katniss took a coin from the pouch and stared down at it. This was still a really bad idea. All of her was still sure this was stupid and someone was going to get killed out there.
