The power of names was something Dean knew pretty damn well if he said so himself. He'd come across times when the power of knowing someone's true name got him out of a tough spot and God knew his last name carried its weight. That last name was a blessing and a curse and it seemed like every supernatural thing from Hell to Heaven and all the dark places in between knew it. Some feared it, some hoped to cash in on it. In the end, the Winchester name carried a reputation and when also attached to Dean, not always the best.
"Good to meet you." Most of the time Dean said that, he didn't really mean it but God help him if he tried to forget the manners his mother instilled in him growing up. He was already convinced he was enough of a walking disappointment, the last thing he needed was to have both his parents looking down at him from Heaven wondering where the Hell they both went completely wrong.
Dean had never really been the people watcher type. The only time he could possibly be considered one was if he was looking for someone who stood out that could help on a case or stood out because there was something suspicious about them. Outside of that, he didn't care or want to know any more about people's public and private lives, not wanting to really commit any of their individual stories to memory. Just because he saved them didn't mean he had to be friends with them. That didn't stop him from finding friends over the years, but as a general rule, Dean walked a solitary road and preferred to keep it that way. Almost all of the people he'd ever gotten close to ended up dead and if they didn't? They were hurt or tortured as a way to get to him. The more distance between himself and the rest of the world, the better.
"I never planned on getting complacent or settling down here. Still trying to figure this place out and get us all the hell out of here." There were greater things outside of this city he needed to get back to; the crap with all the angels, the demons, Abaddon, but most importantly, Sam. He still had to figure out a way to make that stupid deal he made right. "Paranoia runs in my family. Probably wouldn't be alive today if it didn't."
