It had been a long time since the fog lifted from Simon's brain. A long time since the lure of the crown, the golden one tied to his belt with rope, had been so weak. Yet there was something about this world that lessened the hold the magical object had on the man. For that he was grateful. Grateful and honestly confused. Still in the few hours since Simon had been pulled into this place everything just seemed to overwhelm him. The fact that this town seemed to escape the nuclear war was a big thing indeed. No wreckage and ruins laid scattered across the landscape. No slime mutants hunted him down either. However, as thrilling as it all was Simon found the noise to be quite deafening.
For too long the man had grown used to the silence that came with living in a wasteland. Now though he found himself surrounded by so many people, so many startling sounds of cars and machinery. He had sought out a few supplies in the Mall, and while this building certainly was well stocked with an over abundance of things...well it was filled with people too. It took some considerable effort to wait in lines, plus the whole paying for things part was something he had long since forgotten. Oh the security folks had been kind enough with him but even now he knew that at least on of them was stationed near by to keep an eye on him. Not wishing to cause further problems for anyone Simon sought out some food and a place to sit and read. The food they served was almost as confusing as everything else in this new world. No sign of spoiled wares, no sludge or radiated water...bread balls, the last thing he recalled eating before arriving here was a delightful course of deer guts and pine needles that his little Marceline prepared.
Finding a cold bottle of water nearly had Simon in tears but after receiving more than a few weird looks from the cashier the doddering man just slipped away to find a seat. Afraid to trust the food that was offered, far to 'fresh' and edible looking, he dug out a dented can that had no label along with a book. So absent minded was he that the man never even saw the other woman at all. If it weren't for her speaking up he would have most likely been too involved in reading to even notice her presence. "Hmm? Oh...of course, help yourself Gunther. Plenty of room for us both!" With a small smile, and distant look upon his face, Simon took a seat opposite her and continued to read the book he had in hand. Quietly the man hummed to himself, eyes never once leaving the page, as his fingers deftly used a can opener to open his meal.
