She felt bad for about half a second when he sighed and set his can down, but no one should be eating dog food. That was just gross, unsanitary and bad on so many levels. If she showed up somewhere unfamiliar where the customs were completely different, Karen knew she'd want someone to help her find her footing. It wasn't as if she had planned on running into Simon, but she was kind of glad she did. Helping people was something she wanted to do, and it was nice to be able to do it on her own, as opposed to doing it while working with Matt on cases at the courthouse.
"Just, it's something to keep in mind when you're eating out," Karen explained, because whatever he did in his apartment, behind closed doors, wasn't anyone's business but his own. Of course, it would probably help if he knew where his apartment was. "Uh, you should have, I think. You arrived in front of the sign, right? There should've been a laptop, your mobile device, a credit card, and a set of keys with an apartment number and complex on it." Karen fished around in her purse for her keys, which read 105A Copperstone. It had changed after she and Matt moved in together, which she'd thought was both creepy and helpful. Test City had way too much control over what they were doing, but it was also absurdly easy to get lost in the day to day and forget. Karen didn't want to forget that she'd been kidnapped.
"If you want, I can help you find your place?" She wanted to offer to help show him around his kitchen, but Karen wasn't entirely sure if there was a nice way to say that. "I was thinking about heading to the apartments anyway, since I've gotten most of my shopping done already." She smiled warmly, hoping to encourage him to agree.
