Even the most devoted of mother needed a little time for herself in Elijah's opinion which was why he'd annoyed Hayley until she had given him permission to take Hope around the park to give her a break. He had pointed out it was also for his benefit. He could use something positive in his life such as the presence of a beautiful young lady with a pure heart as companionship on an afternoon stroll. It had earned him a smile which he treasured.
Elijah was aware of where the line was drawn between himself and Hayley. They could never have what they wanted. Life wasn't about what one wanted -contrary to what his brother Niklaus might think- and Elijah was comfortable with the sacrifices he made for his family.
Happiness came in many forms; sometimes all one got was contentment.
Strollers were officially the best invention for infants as far as he was concerned. They'd looked at several before settling on a convertible model which could grow with Hope. Change was something she'd have to deal with later in her life. For now, Elijah was going to give her as much stability as possible. Hope liked sitting upright now more than lying down so he had the stroller in the seated position, allowing her legs to dangle between the safety straps where she kicked her feet against the backing of the stroller while waving her hands at everyone they came across.
Hope was decked out in a pink sundress with matching frilled bloomers. It had amused him to note Bex had possibly worn some very similar undergarments many, many years before. Everyone had laughed at the reminder of their ancient past. Clothing styles had definitely changed throughout the years. For the better for all of them, Elijah thought with a smile as he earned another look from a jogger.
He was in a full three-piece suit in spite of the heat. Most fathers didn't stroll their children through the park in suits costing the average person's monthly salary nor did they choose Italian loafers as their preferred footwear in the same setting. Being a vampire, Elijah didn't actually feel heat the way most did. No sweat stained his clothing as he walked along with Hope. It might as well have been a cool day in winter as far as he was concerned.
He had been distracted looking at a man playing with his dog when Hope threw her toy keyring at a passerby.
Immediately, Elijah apologized, "I'm sorry. She's excited to be out in the park. I wasn't paying attention or I would have caught them before they hit you. Are you alright?"
Elijah had paused on the path with the stroller being rocked forward and back by Hope's kicking and giggling. She had a tendency to reach for things which made him nervous as he saw the keys starting to pull toward her through telekinetic powers courtesy of her witch side of the family.
"Let me just get those."
He wasn't nearly as smooth as he tried to retrieve the keys before Hope got them back for herself.
