Caine was very confused by the concept the woman had been spliced with a mythological being who seemed to have so many weaknesses in the legends. They couldn't go out into the sun or cross moving water. There was a dependency on a population around them to sustain their need for blood. Age was the one thing they seemed to defy, but of what use would that be if one sacrificed so much else in return? He supposed it was why they'd spliced her with a wolf. Wolves were far stronger. He could also be confused and she didn't mean the mythological creature at all. She could be intending him to understand she'd been spliced with a vampire bat which was a nocturnal flying mammal with echolocation skills which could be very useful in battles on worlds without suns. That made far more sense to him.
Holding a hand over his heart, he gave a brief bow of respect before asking, "Pardon my ignorance again, miss. Do you mean you were spliced with the mythological creature called 'vampire' or you were engineered using the genome sequences of the vampire bat? Either smells plausible. You are surely a person of great worth. I am Caine Wise. I apologize if I am interrupting your day with my curiosity. I'm a bad example of my breed."
He wished he was a better example of a Lycantant. Jupiter deserved the best defense any queen could have, yet all she had to her aide was him. Caine was many things. He knew he was a more than adequate pilot, flyer, and fighter. His ability to kill was not in question. What he was not? A good example of his breed. If he had been better formed, perhaps he would feel less guilty touching her. There was a great fear in him one day she would want children. He never wanted to explain to her how she would have to seek a partner to assist her in that endeavor. It was humiliating to even think of the conversation arising. Luckily, Jupiter was very young in her recurrence. She would perhaps not want young of her own until many, many life cycles after he had already passed.
