Davina was doing her best to keep it together here, but every day was a struggle. She was still mourning Kol. And it didn’t help that practically every member of his family was here, except for him. She saw him in her dreams at night. She wanted to be able to save him, to bring him back. She knew Rebekah had wanted the same, but that wasn’t the Rebekah who was here now. The different places in the timelines could be so confusing. She tried to pass the time by working in the book store. She liked it well enough, and she figured that it was better than moping all the time. It was something to keep her busy. If only Marcel or Josh were here, she might feel a bit more at ease. But Davina was on her own. She wasn’t exactly allies with the Mikaelson brigade, though she had felt it was right to put some wards around Hope. An innocent baby shouldn’t be brought into her complicated and sometimes volatile relationship with Klaus. She was an angry girl, and that wasn’t likely to change until she got Kol back. Oh, but she’d try to do her best to keep it under control here. The city didn’t need to suffer for her grief or frustrations. She just wished she could see him again, hold him. Davina had lost too many people. She wouldn’t accept losing anyone else. She hadn’t been going out of her way to make friends here, but she at least somewhat socialized with people at her job. So when she got there, she clocked in, offering Violet a polite smile. She didn’t know much about the other girl, just that she seemed a little older than Davina and somewhat awkward in this place. But who wasn’t? None of them truly belonged here. This was not their home. ~*~ Violet really enjoyed working at The Corner Bookstore. It helped pass the time for the most part, and she liked going through the shelves to see what sorts of books she might enjoy, or ones John might. Sometimes, if their schedules matched up, she was able to bring him lunch or they were able to walk either to work or back to Hope Springs. She liked how easily they’d fallen into a rhythm, settling into life in Test City. Maybe it wasn’t the best thing in the world, considering there was always a danger of things getting turned upside down. The singing wasn’t too bad. She just hoped she didn’t end up singing something embarrassing, particularly if it happened within earshot of John. Vi winced, just thinking about all the embarrassing pop songs that were possibilities. “Nope, don’t think about it. Then it won’t happen,” she muttered to herself as she clocked in for her shift. She was only working for a couple of hours, which was plenty of time for her to check the shelves and get some restocking in. Plus there were the returns and holds to go through. Violet smiled at Davina in greeting when the other girl came in for her shift. She seemed nice, even if they hadn’t said more than a passing hello since they started working together. Half the time, they were on shifts that didn’t match up anyway. Seeing as it was fairly quiet, and she had to check for any holds that had expired and therefore needed to be put back, Violet decided to strike up a conversation. “Davina right? Sorry, I’m not always the best at names. I’m Violet. I think we’ve overlapped a couple of times on shifts, but this is the first one we’ve got together, right?” She’d feel like a heel if that wasn’t the case, but she was pretty sure it was. “How’re you liking Test City so far?” ~*~ “Hi.” Davina said to the other girl. She didn’t really know her yet, they were always missing each other or something. She was coming in and Violet was leaving or vice versa. So she thought that Violet was probably right. This was their first shift together. The other girl seemed nice enough, and Davina definitely needed some distraction from her thoughts. She didn’t accept that they were stuck here indefinitely. She was going to find a way to get home and get Kol back, but for now...she had to bide her time. “It certainly hasn’t been boring.” Davina said, shaking her head. There always seemed to be something going on here. It could be quite the scary place. But New Orleans could be scary too. And Davina was far from some helpless damsel. Even here, away from her ancestral magic...she was still powerful, she could still feel it. She was the last harvest girl, and she’d get through whatever came her way here. “How about you?” She asked, tilting her head at Violet for a moment. She sensed there was something different about her, though she couldn’t place what it was. She seemed much more interesting than most people though. “What do you think about being here? And what was home like?” She was curious and they were kind of slow right now. There was no reason they couldn’t have a nice conversation. She looked at a stack of books that had to be organized once she’d punched in, and waited for Violet’s answer. The more knowledge they had, maybe they’d be more likely to get everyone home some time. Socializing and getting to know someone was a good place to start. ~*~ Violet chuckled a little, glad to see Davina had a sense of humor about the whole thing. She’d had Composite City to get used to the idea of being kidnapped and away from home, which made her think she had a bit of an advantage. Plus, she had John and that was an automatic advantage. She smiled just thinking about the Sheriff, which was par for the course these days. “I like it here, honestly. I was in a place like this before with a couple other people, called Composite City. It was lonely at first, but I ended up getting locked inside a building and I made friends. Tony Stark - he works at the Auto Shop around here - we bonded over his epic taste in tunes. He’s got an AI with a dry wit, which is pretty great when he turns it on Tony. The Sheriff was in Composite City, too. I’m glad Test City picked him to run the police department, though it probably should’ve made Captain Rogers one of his deputies. That guy is intensely good in a way that’s really inspiring, and also seriously intimidating.” It didn’t hurt that they were all seriously attractive men. Violet organized as she talked, at ease multitasking. Talking while she worked absolutely made it all go faster. “Home is pretty great. I miss my parents and even my brothers a little bit, but I like being here. I like the people I’ve met, and I know they won’t be there when I go back home. That’s worth putting up with some crazy stuff every now and again, isn’t it?” ~*~ Davina was a bit surprised to hear that something similar to this had happened to Violet before. She probably shouldn't have been surprised, considering all she had seen and been through. She'd been dead before. Nothing should be able to surprise Davina after that. But, it was interesting to know that this wasn't Violet's first rodeo. And Davina wondered if this Composite City she was referring to and the same kind of dangers. She worked on putting the books away as she listened to what Violet was saying. Davina was quite curious about whether or not Violet was more than the average human. There seemed to be all kinds of people here, but as far as Davina knew right now, she was the only witch. "I can't wait to go back." Davina told her. If others liked it here, that was fine. But unless Kol was brought here, Davina didn't think she ever could. She had to bring him back. She was so tired of losing people. She finished what she was doing, and once again turned her attentions to Violet. "Have you noticed that not everyone here is exactly...normal?" She asked, deciding to test the waters and see where Violet stood on it all. ~*~ Violet wasn’t surprised to hear that Davina wanted to go back home. She’d wanted to, at first, and then she’d given the people in Composite City a chance, and that ended up changing her life. At home, she was under the shadow of her parents’ legacies, but in Test City, Supers weren’t common, and they certainly weren’t common to everyone’s home worlds either. They definitely didn’t know about Mr and Mrs Incredible. It was easy getting lost in the mundane job of cross checking and organizing, enjoying the easy way Davina shelved what was needed, making the hours pass by quickly. “Sure,” Violet replied, tilting her head to look at the other girl curiously. Asking about abilities without clearly presenting any always made Violet a little uncomfortable. There’d been that lawyer, who meant well but came on a little too strongly for her tastes, and then Peter, who was just kind and reminded her a lot of her brother. Davina didn’t seem like she had super powers, but that didn’t necessarily mean anything. Her mom certainly didn’t look like a superhero. “I think that’s just because there are so many people here from all different worlds. What might be normal for you or me is different for them, just because of where they’re from.” Violet shrugged and grabbed the last stack of books. “Considering what might happen here? I’ll take as many people with extra abilities as Test City gives us.” Composite City had given them quite a few challenges, many of which they wouldn’t have made it through without people like Iron Man, Captain Rogers, Elijah, or John. She’d be grateful for any help they could get, though she hoped they were all as good, kind people as her friends. ~*~ “I’m a witch.” Davina told her. Maybe she shouldn’t have, but she just had a feeling Violet would be okay with it. “A powerful one.” She was more powerful at home, where she felt connected to her ancestral magic...but she still had power here. She could still feel it. However, the longer she was here, the more she felt like she was just standing still. It wasn’t much fun. Not when she could be back there, trying to find a way to bring Kol back. “My city...it’s full of witches, vampires, werewolves, and some humans too. We’re at war.” They were always at some war or another. “There are people from my world here, but I’m not really close with them. Our history is...messy.” She said, thinking about the dagger that Kol had given her to use on Klaus if necessary. “But I fell in love with one of them. The best of them. Kol. And his brother cursed him. He died. and I’ve been trying to bring him back. I can do it.” She said confidently. “Just...not from here.” Davina sounded sad, but she shook it off and looked at Violet for a moment. “Sorry that kind of all just...came out, didn’t it?” But it was nice to talk about with someone who didn’t know her at all. “I should go in the back and check out what needs to be restocked.” Davina said, dismissing herself. Hopefully Violet wouldn’t think she was too much of a freak, but she didn’t stick around to find out. |
