A telepath? Well, now Kate had heard everything. But was it really so unbelievable? A week ago she’d never have believed in vampires, either. Now she knew they were real. And she knew there was a dark and ancient evil just waiting for the right moment to strike. She didn’t see the world through rose colored glasses anymore, no. She still had her faith, and she believed in Him. She was strong, but she wasn’t some naive little girl.
The preacher’s daughter had become someone else, something else. A fighter, maybe. In one day, she’d lost the rest of her family. Kate was on her own now, especially here. It wasn’t going to be easy. But she could make it. Somehow she always did. Ranger Gonzales knew she’d be alright, and she knew Jacob was looking down on her from heaven. She was going to make it on her own, because she didn’t have another option.
That didn’t stop the nightmares. No doubt her mysterious roommate had heard her cry out in her sleep, if she was sleeping at all.
She didn’t know what to say to him, and then he was projecting into her mind. That was a gift, she thought. A gift from God? Kate had to believe that because the alternative...it was terrifying.
She looked at the ground, shaking her head. She wasn’t quite sure how to respond to something like that. But now she knew there were more than just vampires out there to be concerned with. And maybe God had given him this gift to even the odds, a bit. She didn’t detect that Charles Xavier was a bad guy.
“I’m sorry...I just...don’t know what to say. I’ve never met someone who could do this before.” She admitted. “And thanks but it sounds like you have to hear about people’s problems all the time. I should save you mine.” What a crowded place it must be in his head, she wondered how he kept from going mad.
