Kono Kalakaua, 6PM, OTA [Matt Murdock]
"Police Officer," Matt smiled wider, "I have a feeling we'll run into one another. I'm a defense attorney. I get all the ones you arrest."
Defense was the worst side of the legal line as far as most people were concerned. The concept of being innocent until proven guilty was one Matt Murdock believed in. He'd fight for someone who was innocent. He'd fight for someone who was guilty if the law would let him. Everyone had a right to a fair trial. Matt saw they got one. If the law failed to protect the innocent? Matt tried to do his best to pick up where the law left off. Playing the vigilante went against his beliefs in some ways yet in others? It was the only answer he could see to keeping the world a safe place to live in for those who weren't on the wrong side of the law.
There were far more innocent people or people who had made one mistake than there were life-long hardened criminals. The news and media tended to focus on the worst aspects of any case. It was their job to sensationalize. They got paid for ratings. Sex, murder, rape, violence of any kind, all of those things were what got the ratings. Matt had heard people complain they never saw any positive stories on the news any longer, but those were often the same people who would turn the channel if the production team did a segment on fundraising or awareness for some positive group. It was a double-edged sword they all wielded.
"I haven't met Steve yet though I've heard his posts on the network. He seems like a stand-up guy. I know he offered to bring people emergency rations during our last crisis. That was brave of him. Selfless. You don't see many people like that these days."
