Peter Maximoff, 5:11 PM, OTA
Free food was free food. Peter didn't have a problem taking food when it wanted to jump into his hand as he was passing by, but it was a lot nicer to get it when it was literally sitting out for him to take with people expecting it to be taken. He'd always liked those whole open house type deals. Usually they only served stale cookies. He thought burgers were a definite step up.
The one he got was a little more blackened than he liked, but it was still hot. That was always a plus. He ate the burger without bothering with a plate since what was the point? It'd not have time to get crumbs on it. By the time he'd finished the burger and taken a soda out of the cooler by the table, he was looking around to see who had finally shown up.
People were constantly running late or something in Test City. No one could tell time from what he'd observed. They meandered around between places as if they didn't have responsibilities. Didn't people have jobs and stuff here? He was so bored he could cry except crying was even more irritating to him than slow people.
Moving to stand next to the line at the table, Peter offered helpfully, "Some of the burgers are a little burned on one side. I think they got distracted while cooking. They're still hot though so they taste great. I can't stand cold burgers. Decent open house. Better than any I've been to before. Are you new here?"
Everyone was new there unless they were a local. Technically speaking, Peter knew that. He didn't know how long this person had been on site though. People came and went pretty randomly in the town. He still hadn't figured out how it was happening either. The force field around the town was as solid as ever.
No one was talking about the force field either. Why didn't anyone else care? Peter wasn't the only one who knew it existed. People were always posting about their jobs, songs, entertainment, the aliens he'd missed. No one was talking about how they were all domed in. Didn't they think that was so much more important than any of the rest of their socializing?
It could be the place had brainwashed them all. Peter studied the people in line. They were moving around pretty freely. He couldn't see evidence of them being under mind control. Didn't mean they weren't though, did it? He might not see it because he was under mind control. Where was that Xavier guy? He was supposed to be able to do the whole mind thing. Peter would have to look him up.
"You think we're under mind control? Sorry. I think fast. I'm not crazy."
He didn't think he was crazy at least. It was possible he was crazy and simply didn't know it. Wasn't that a sign of true insanity? Not knowing when they'd gone crazy? Or was it if a person thought they might be crazy they couldn't be crazy because they were thinking about whether or not they were crazy and crazy people didn't think about that? He couldn't remember.
