Shaking the woman's hand gently, Alice offered, "Alice. No last name. I'm with Test City PD which is about the best I'm good for at this stage."
It was easier to release Dr. Grimm's hand than it had been to take it. Alice was hesitant to offer contact with others. She wasn't sure if the T-Virus could be spread to people not of their world through contact. She knew she couldn't infect Carlos or any of their people. Here? Who knew what kind of immunities these people had? They came from so many different worlds, each with their own story to tell. None of them made her feel as if she could understand them on an intimate level. They made her wary to trust. They made her wary of what she could do to them. Her control was finely honed, but she was no miracle woman. Umbrella had always gotten that wrong about her. They thought because the virus bonded with her the way it did, she could control it perfectly.
They were wrong.
Alice had proven them wrong in ways too terrible to think about.
The day was nice outside as the doctor had remarked. It was nice to sit reasonably close to someone without worrying about an attack from any angle. She wanted to enjoy the peace for as long as she could. Not borrow trouble. Someone had said that recently. She couldn't remember who. Likely Carlos. He had a tendency to look on the bright side of things even when Alice felt there was no bright side to see. Every night had its dawn for him. It was why he'd gone out smiling.
It was why she would probably go out screaming if she ever went out at all.
"If you don't mind me asking, doctor of what?"
Alice didn't ask the question lightly. It was one she had an invested interest in hearing the answer to given she was a corporation's greatest scientific accomplishment. They'd made her into a personal army. No one on their team had considered the consequences to her. All their work had been to see what benefits they could gain from binding the T-Virus to a human host. Meetings had consisted of number projections for profit margins for custom-ordered supersoldiers. Agendas had been set to bring in the big money for Umbrella so they could go on to do even bigger and better things. Not a single scientist, doctor, or even legal aide had questioned what would happen to their test subject if it worked.
They certainly hadn't had enough contingency plans for when it hadn't, but that wasn't really Alice's story.
