Elle didn’t like him using those words, it worried her. It worried her because it was what the thing wanted, to be made whole. Whatever the hell that meant. She just wanted them to get away from it, far away. It was evil. She didn’t have to be close to it to know that. She could just tell by the way Sylar was acting. They had to get away and now.
Besides the words he used, she didn’t ever think she could really be whole. She was broken, completely broken. She didn’t think even he could put her back together all the way. No one could do that. She had been broken since she was a little girl. Sometimes she was still that little girl. The things that had been done to her…
Gabriel was the only one who had ever truly understood Elle. She thought he might even love her. But she didn’t know anymore.
She took his hand again and squeezed. She wasn’t too interested in coming back to this thing, but she knew they’d have to fight. Deep down, she knew. He was a hero now, or so he wanted everyone to think. He wanted to believe he was. And the least she could do, was help with that.
She lead him away from the thing, not letting go of his hand as all of the feelings built up inside of her again. As much as she wanted to appear indifferent, she couldn’t hide the way she felt from him, no matter how hard she tried.
She’d loved him then, if she was capable of such a thing. And she loved him now, even after he’d murdered her.
He couldn’t make her whole, no...but maybe he could put the pieces back together just enough to hold for now. Just enough that she could find some new purpose in all of this. He was going to live forever. She wasn’t. So even if there was something still there between them, they’d been doomed from the start.
