[Name:] Michelle (again)
IC:
[Name:] Phineas N. Caldwell
[Age:] Just shy of 200
[Birthday:] November 11th, 1811
[Race:] Angel
[Physical Description:] Phineas is 5’8 with blue eyes, brown hair and somewhat imperfect teeth. He is thoroughly ordinary looking and he likes it that way. His age is a little hard to place; the way he speaks and acts often seems contrary to the way he looks. Most people guess him to be in his late twenties, although he has passed for as young as seventeen and as old as forty. Never one to pay attention to the whims of fashion, he wears old-style clothes; waistcoats, cloth trousers, suits, hats, button up cotton and linen shirts. Despite these things now being considered dressy, he comes off as less than well-dressed due to the worn and rumpled state of his garments. Whatever the outfit, he always wears his Colt revolver on his hip, although he has not actually fired it at anyone for many decades (still works though, fyi).
As for his most thoroughly unordinary feature, his wings, they are about a foot longer than his arms and dappled with various shades of gray, like those of a common pigeon.
[Personality:] After first meeting him, people usually walk away from Phineas shaking their heads and muttering ‘He seems friendly enough, but there’s just something wrong with him.’ They then decide either to pity or avoid him from then on out, but it makes no difference to Phineas. Yeah, sometimes he gives people the heebie-jeebies. Sometimes people gently press the business cards of physiologists into his palm with a quiet nod and a pat on the shoulder. He’s never been one to care about or even really notices others’ opinions of him, so focused he is on the task at hand (i.e. finding people in need of protection, being an overall bad motherfucker and kickin’ ass for God etc.) He speaks quietly and slowly, using poor grammar and simple words, but this is out of habit and facetiousness rather than ignorance, as can be seen when he speaks of more serious subjects. His smile and laugh tend to make people uncomfortable, his facial expressions and mannerisms often seem strange; there is something off about them, as if he is doing an earnestly practiced but slightly faulty impression of a normal human being. He never eats, but drinks coffee and whiskey in abundance; they are social drinks, the type of thing you can imbibe with a group of strangers. Every once in awhile, you can catch a flicker of something deeper in his eyes that suggest he knows more than he lets on.
[History:] This angel was born and raised in Heaven, but knew from a young age that he wanted to go to Earth to help the humans there. So as soon as he was able, he volunteered and was sent down to the United States of America, which at the time was going through a rather tumultuous adolescence.
Claiming to be from Illinois and calling himself Phineas N. Caldwell, he spent his time doing the sorts of things 19th century Midwesterners liked to do, from the exciting (train robberies!) to the mundane (all that Little House on the Prairie shit). The fact that he had no trade and seemed totally inept developing one coupled with his apprehension to enter into a martial contract lead to him becoming a bit of an outcast and, eventually, an outlaw (oops). No matter. He figured the fringes of society was exactly the place he would find the people most in need of help.
So that went on for awhile, until 1911 to be exact, when Phineas came across the person he would serve as a guardian to: the child of a mother who died in childbirth and no discernable father, named by the state Marion Rhodes after the county and hospital she was born in respectively. It’s not like Phineas had never come across an orphaned baby before in his time on earth, but this one in particular had attracted the attention of some unsavory and otherworldly characters, so he took it upon himself to insure her a safe passage through life. In 1923, he followed Marion and her adoptive parents to London. Although he was reluctant to leave American and disliked England immediately, he stayed and continued to protect his charge. He worked hard to stay in the background of her life, but she noticed and befriended him regardless and after witnessing an event that couldn’t be explained away, he had no choice but the reveal himself for what he was.
Marion passed on in 2005 and Phineas has found himself in a bit of a rut ever since, in a place he hates mulling around without any purpose. God has assured him that he should stay in London, that he will be needed soon, so not he just sits around, waiting for something to happen.
[Weakness:] Phineas came to Earth as a very naive young angel and his experiences have changed him in ways he is not proud of. He once fell from grace, going down a path that ended with him killing a human in anger, but was redeemed shortly afterwards. Still, his temper remains a problem for him, as much as he denies it. He also can be prideful of his power, a very dangerous thing for an angel. He has a triflingly low tolerance for alcohol and drinking tends to exacerbate and enlarge his other shortcomings.
[Strengths:] As an angel, Phineas cannot help but be fundamentally good, caring and kind. He is young and not at all cynical, still truly believing all can and deserved to be saved. He still tends to think of things in black and white terms, but his time on Earth has made him much more open-minded and he understands that things are not often so clear, especially for human beings.
[Family:] All residing in Heaven, all with names unpronounceable to most.
