[Name:] Jacoby Benjamin Wilkes, goes by J
[Age:] 28
[Birthday:] 30-10-1979
[Race:] Human
[Family:] Parents: Scott and Georgina Wilkes. Sister: Jessica Wilkes.
[Physical Description:] J is a tall guy, made taller by the thick-souled boots he gracefully stomps about in every day (and night). He isn't skinny, but he isn't exactly fat either. His arms and upper body are covered in tattoos, and he also has several piercings, the most noticable being the one in his lip.
Jacoby doesn't like having a hairstyle for too long, he's easily bored of fixed looks and craves change. Currently, his dark hair is cut reasonably short (for J, at least) with a long, layered piece on his left side. Sometimes it's highlighted with other colours, sometimes not. He's never seen without a faceful of makeup on, especially if he's doing a gig. The more dramatic, the better.
In clothes, Jacoby's daily choice looks quite pedestrian in comparison to what he wears at gigs. With the amount of time he spends fixing his hair and makeup, he doesn't have much time to throw on more than say, a part of dark jeans, a t-shirt, too many bracelets and pair of heavy boots. However, on stage he always looks the part. He makes time to goth up then, even if it means turning up late to a gig.
[Personality:] Arrogant is probably the best word to sum up Jacoby Wilkes. He is incredibly conceited and incredibly vain; no one has or will be as beautiful or as talented as he is. J sees himself as being intelligent, more intelligent than most of those around him, so he assumes that because he is more intelligent, he is also always right. On the off chance that he does meet someone who poses a threat to his IQ crown, he brushes them off as being less creative. No one is better than Jacoby Wilkes.
As well as having an ego the size of Gibraltar, Jacoby also has an eye for the women. He usually preys on his legion of awestruck fangirls, but sometimes he likes someone that's a bit more of a challenge. He isn't into blondes much, and never dates outside his subculture...if you can really call what J does 'dating'. Once he's got what he wants from a girl, he moves onto the next one. He keeps numbers, but it's very rare for him to call someone again.
This is the Jacoby everyone sees. What people don't see is how introverted he actually is. J doesn't let many people in and so very few people really know what he's like. He doesn't like to show his emotions and vulnerabilities, so he uses his shallow veneer to gloss over everything he keeps private. He masks what he's feeling with petty complaints and pretentiousness. Jacoby doesn't like people seeing that there's a human beneath the image.
[History:] Born in Bristol, Jacoby was the first child of his parents Scott and Georgina Wilkes, his sister Jessica arriving five years later. He was brought up in a reasonably middle class household; his sister studied ballet after school, Jacoby learned to play the piano. Over the years, he became a proficient player; not a prodigy, but good enough to get an A in his music A level at college. His parents urged him to continue with his music studies at university.
Although he did begin a degree in music, Jacoby had very different ideas about where he wanted his career to go. While his parents thought he should continue with classical music, J wanted to started a band, a goth band, like the ones he listened to and tried to emulate in writing style.
During his first year in London, Jacoby founded the band Methadone Jesus with a few friends. However, a combination of everyone still settling into their course and no one really putting the effort in meant that the band broke up shortly after its creation. Instead, Jacoby spent time composing songs and trying to get rid of what he thought was a 'horrible' Bristolian accent.
A few years later, when he'd progressed onto a Master's degree, Jacoby started looking into starting a new band. He drifted between several before finally meeting what he considered at the time to be 'like-minded people', Nic Cade and Drake Howell. Along with Shane Addams, they formed Rapturatra.
It was hard work getting off the ground, but the band soon became a semi-permanent fixture at some of the goth clubs in London. One particularly well-frequented haunt was Avant Flux, where they continue to draw in the biggest crowds when they play there.
After completing his Master's, Jacoby took a few years out of his education to give the band the boost it needed. He's currently working on his Ph.D in music and his hoping the band will be signed very soon.
[Weaknesses:] Jacoby is reasonably deluded, so he tends to bother a lot of people by being a conceited asshole. His reluctance to trust people means that no one knows who he really is, so he's often quite lonely and feels unhappy a lot of the time. However, he also doesn't really think about the feelings of others, especially if they happen to be members of his band.
[Strengths:] Jacoby is reasonably deluded, so a lot of things that might bother someone else bounce off his egotistical hide. He's reasonably smart and quick witted, and very good at playing the piano. Because of who he is, Jacoby is never short of friends, especially after a gig. He's also hardworking and organised, keeping on top of both band and university commitments.
