"Well, at least it's going to create a career for you. A well paying one at that." Alice did look on the bright side of his being lonely in his hometown. It might have sounded a little patronizing, but she had meant it earnestly. A lot of 'nerds' that didn't have any friends grew up to be quite rich.
Managing another bite of sandwich while he talked, she chewed as she listened, though needed to clear her throat with some coffee when she felt the need to speak again. "I just don't understand why. You have friends. I've seen some of them. That one... that calls everyone bro. He seems popular enough. And don't you party? I think most people here do, by the sounds of it." Alice couldn't really comprehend why he'd want to bother with a silly Freshman that couldn't legally drink and was obviously a prude that wouldn't even let him touch her hand.
"I'm not really like that. I don't even like that, actually." To be completely honest, if he had thought otherwise. "I'm not very nice, either though. I can't blame some of them. But you shouldn't have to pretend to like anyone." Well, he at least got her opening up, though probably not in the way he wanted. "I just think it's a waste of time to exchange pleasantries if there isn't any real reason to."
