It burned, but it was probably intended to, and Orion sucked in a breath as Lot's words slammed into her like bricks. She wanted to hit him with something, just swing a fist at him and see if it would hurt him. Could she hurt him if she tried? Would it matter?
"I know what she is," she said with a bastardized sort of dignity. "Whatever else you can say against her, she doesn't lie about that. Forgive me if I see more than a piece of meat. It doesn't mean I believe in fairy tales."
Had Lot had her? Was Lot having her and that was why he was trying to run her off? She burned with wanting to know but didn't dare ask. Maybe he was just her damned pimp trying to protect his merchandise, which made him a worse piece of crap than what he clearly thought she was.
