"It's never to late for God, son," Priest said, barely refraining from putting a steadying hand on Lot's shoulder. He was trying to be an advisor, not a friend. "But you must turn all your sins over to Him and renounce them, be cleansed by His love and forgiveness. God only punishes those who continue to go forth in sin, and He does so with a heavy heart. God loves you, Lot, even if you don't believe it."
He paused, studying the other man's expression. He was well-acquainted with helplessness, and sometimes he even experienced it himself, but the key was not to wallow in the emotion. He wondered about this woman Lot was dallying with. Was the one of the whores who resided in Cascade Locks? If she was, it might be a health issue as well as one of the soul.
