Hope & Hagar
Hope snickered when it was her mom's turn to roll her eyes. "Well you can try, but I seriously doubt you'll get it!" Not that a scarf was particularly hard to guess, especially if Hagar saw the really badly wrapped gift. She would most certainly play along though, because it was fun, and it had been a while since she really had fun with her mother. "It could be the world's tiniest pony though? You never know how small they can get by now."
She wasn't complaining when her mother gave up just when they reached the museum. "Well, maybe you'll get it before dessert then." she said with a grin that made her look a lot younger than she actually was. This felt just so nice, just her and her mom...
And then it was over before it had really begun. The smile froze on her lips. She didn't know the guy who had greeted her mother, and she didn't care to, but she was no idiot. "Really? Today? Today was supposed to no business." she said quietly. "Just you and me." Her jaw set stubbornly.. "You know what, forget it." She reached into her backpack, thrusting the wrapped scarf at her mother harshly. "Go have fun with whatever john is more important than Christmas with your daughter." Yeah, playing the guilt card wasn't nice either, but it hurt to be put aside like that.
