If her head wasn't beginning to hurt her so much, Pixie would have started shouting at Niro, right in his hear too. How the fuck would he know about her kids? How would he know about kids in the first place? He didn't have any that she knew of and he certainly didn't carry himself like a man who had any or lost any. It wasn't his tone that got to her, it was his words. Pumpkin was barely 18, barely classified as a 'man', hadn't even had a real girlfriend, she didn't even know if her son liked girls, he could be gay and she'd never have known it until he came out and told her. So much of his innocence had already been lost before the pulse, and Pixie had done her best to retain what little of it he had but everyday Pumpkin/Skellington was slipping through her fingers. It angered her and saddened her, making her feel like a horrible mother, and yet here Niro was reminding her that she wasn't a horrible mother because he has had it better than the two of them.
"And who are you to make that statement? You don't know the things we've been through as a family, what he's had deal with. He's not useless, who do you think runs all the errands around here? Play messenger boy and look out and whatever else you and Lot need taken care of but are too high up in rank to do yourself? Not to mention with me working my ass off, someone needs to be around my daughter, helping to raise her, and teach her. There are time he has to be brother, mother, and father to my daughter. Do you have any idea how hard that is? How that makes me feel as a mother? So before passing judgment on whether or not someone should be having it 'better' than anyone else, actually fucking think before you speak, please."
Pixie's tone wasn't harsh or rude but it was straight forward. Criticize anything else about Pixie and she'd brush it off, play the ignorant or the submissive, whatever. But talk about her kids, or anything having to do with her family for that matter, and this kitty showed her claws, didn't matter who said it. Hell, Lot could say something about her family and Pixie would still lash out at him, not giving two fucks if he threw her out of the tribe for it. Pixie worked her ass off for her kids, and if no one around her could see that or appreciate it, then she didn't need them in her or her children's lives.
Her anger was slightly thrown off at the half smile Niro gave her, causing her to put a pleasing face back on, not quite a smile but the evidence of her earlier displeasure wasn't there, except in her eyes.
"That would be very kind of you. Thank you. Though, I don't suppose you play board games, do you?" If she was going to have company while she stayed up all night, she'd use it to keep her occupied.
