Orion allowed herself a small smile, then finished off her apple and tossed the core into the grass near the trunk of a tree. "I was really hoping not to offend you," she said. "I have this habit of stepping in it without knowing it until it's too late, so I'm glad I didn't say the wrong thing by accident."
What she didn't say was that she'd thought it was war too, that somebody had finally pushed that big red button and started a fight they couldn't stop, and reality had proved to be worse than what she'd feared. Now the world was what it was, and she just had to get along as best as she could.
