"I came up from Texas," Orion answered with a sympathetic expression. "Had to hide in the daytime and travel at night after a while because there were bands of people on the roads acting like they'd just come off the Mad Max set. It might have been luck for me that I made it here too."
She took the stool he'd offered, settling her rump on the padded seat as she said, "I had just graduated from college when things went boom. Texas A & T. I wanted to be a farmer." She shook her head at herself, since she seldom talked about that particular dream with anyone these days. But the man seemed approachable enough, and technically he was one of her people, in as much as she had people anymore. Outside, there was a cheerful shout as Amy caught up to some of her playmates.
"It's good you've come here," she told Doc. "Although I'm kind of curious as to why. The Enks don't really have much to give except what they can scrounge up on their own and we're not much for organization. What made you decide not to choose a tribe?"
