Daniel lay stretched out on the couch in the front room, his long, lean frame easily covering the entire length of the piece of furniture. He stared blankly at the far wall, fingers tapping a non-specific rhythm on the beer bottle held loosely in his hand. The house was too quiet. It felt...empty.
He sighed and shook his head. God, this was stupid. Jessie was only round a friends' barely three streets away and just for the night, but he couldn't help missing her. He wasn't good at being on his own without anyone else in the house with him - it messed with his head. Admittedly, he was better than he had been in a long while but his daughter had never not been here of an evening or night and even though he'd assured the small seven-year old that he would be perfectly fine... he really wasn't. It also didn't help that he was so tired from covering the late show. He didn't normally do the lates because of Jessie but there was no-one else available to cover and he, quite simply, needed the money.
Daniel shook his head again and downed the rest of his beer. He was contemplating getting another when there was a knock at the door. His brow furrowed in confusion, glancing at his phone to check he hadn't missed any calls somehow but upon finding he hadn't, his frown deepened.
"Who the hell..?" he muttered under his breath, placing the empty beer bottle on the small table in front of the couch before rising and heading to answer the door. His frown lifted and a small smile touched one corner of his lips upon seeing who it was.
"Angel...Hey, what are you doing here? Everything okay?" he asked, almost unconsciously stepping aside and opening the door wider to invite her inside.
