To say that Suki was annoyed was putting it mildly. She had been waiting for Riku to come over and have some tea with her as they had planned and he hadn't shown up. He also hadn't bothered to call or text or message her in anyway and she was most certainly not going to message him and have him know how upset she was that he had stood her up. Or that she really cared. It was only tea after all, so why was she so upset? It was her birthday tomorrow and Suki was a very private person. Most people didn't know it was her birthday unless they were very close to the swan. Her roommate and best friend Ailee knew, but she was out, distracting herself from her own problems. And Suki didn't begrudge her this, and had in fact encouraged her friend to go out, since she had made plans with Riku to enjoy some tea and talk about home. But then he had stood her up! And it was her birthday tomorrow! The swan had waited as long as she would allow herself before she changed out of her dress and into her nightclothes. She had a cup of tea as planned and then readied for bed, even getting so far as to slip into bed and turn the lights out. Unable to sleep she turned them back on a half hour later and grabbed a book, sitting up in bed, reading old Korean fairytales, hoping the familiar stories would lull her to sleep. Suki was restless and agitated, upset that she was upset that he had obviously found something better to do then spend time with her. It wasn't as if he knew it was her birthday tomorrow (technically in less then a half hour) and that her own family never remembered until a few days later. Her own mother couldn't even remember when she was born, why would Riku or anyone else?
A knock at the door and she looked rather confused at the door, before rising and grabbing her robe and slipping it on over her rather skimpy night outfit. Barefoot the swan padded silently towards the door, running a hand through her pale white hair. Opening the door, she still had a puzzled expression on her face as it took her a second to figure out exactly what was going on. Riku was standing outside her door, dressed quite irresistibly, a cake box balanced in one hand, a bag in the other, and he was singing to her. So caught off guard, she was, she couldn't do anything but stare at the tiger as he sang, quite beautifully and rather emotionally she thought, a rendition of "Happy Birthday," using his pet name for her instead of her name in the song. She couldn't stop herself from smiling at him as he finished, even though she tried to not look quite as pleased as she was by his surprise.
"How did you know it was my birthday?" she asked as she smiled at him, holding open the door to allow him in. She reached out and took the bag from him, so he could give the cake box its proper attention. As she closed the door behind him, she was still a little on the speechless side, unable to say anything witty or sarcastic in the slightest. She was so touched that he remembered her birthday and went through such trouble for her.
