Rory had barely been paying attention in class. She and Reiland were meeting for lunch after this class so they could talk and figure out how to move on. Rory was was pissed with herself for letting it drag out as long as it had. And this had been the reason she had never acted on any of her feelings, for fear it would tear them apart. And it was threatening to. As the bell signaled the end of the class, Rory gathered her books and made her way out of the room. She wasn't dressed up, merely in her uniform with some pretty jewelery to accent it, but she had taken a little of extra time this morning, since she could barely sleep for nerves anyway, to blow dry her hair and put on just a tiny bit of make-up. Which could send the wrong idea now that she thought about it. She contemplated ducking into a bathroom and washing off the make-up and putting her hair into a ponytail or messy bun, but then she realized she was just over thinking the entire situation.
The cafeteria was slowly filling up and Rory skipped the hot lunch line. Their cafeteria was more like a gourmet kitchen, but she normally had a light lunch, which consisted of chicken over salad and some fruit. She would eat like a fat kid at dinner, since she would burn it all off after anyway. Filling her tray she waved at Song, whom she normally ate with, and sat down at an empty table. She texted her best friend, just to let her know she was eating with Reiland. She hadn't told Song any of the details, but she knew her best friend was one of those that suspected something happened.
As she waited for Reiland to join her, she started to eat her salad, drowned in oil and vinegar. She added a little bit of salt for good measure and chewed thoughtfully. Harrison and a few of his friends walked past her and for a moment Harrison's eyes met hers and held them. Her heart froze, and he managed a little smile at her before he continued walking to the table on the far end of the cafeteria. Rory hated that she had hurt him. They hadn't talked much since taking some time. Harrison would still text her, to see how she was, tell her he missed her. She could feel him looking at her and she turned to look over her shoulder at him, her own smile matching his, before returning her attention on her salad. She could only imagine how he would feel when it was Reiland who joined her at the table.
