As the nurse came in and Adrian could see for himself what was happening, it all clicked into place. He gave the nurse a look, one that told her he had this well under control and there was progress being made. She seemed happy with that and at Lyri's nod, she left the room. Adrian looked at Lyri as she spoke, blunt in her words, and Adrian couldn't mince words with her when she was being so honest and straight forward.
"Yes, Lyri," he said simply. "The doctors think that the trauma you endured has triggered a defense mechanism in you. And I'm the only one you don't feel you have to defend yourself from." He was still holding Lyri's hand as he spoke, leaning forward as he smiled at her and gently brushed a strand of bright red hair away from her pale face.
"You trust me." It wasn't a question. It was a statement. "You know I won't hurt you and will protect you."
