Adrian smiled encouragingly at Lyri, wanting her to speak more, even if it was only to him. She looked at him, her eyes seeing through the mask he had been wearing like the armor he would wear at court. He swallowed as he thought of how to answer her, the doctors would probably tell him not to be too honest or blunt with her, as she was in a fragile place, and talking about the horrors and such would only harm her. Adrian didn't know much about psychology, and knew even less about the type of unicorn that Lyri was and the psychology of her species, but he knew Lyri. She was always an innocent yet very thought provoking girl. She saw through his bullshit and there was no reason to lie to her. Adrian thought that lying to her would actually do more harm then good when it came to trust. Which is what Adrian thought her problem might lie. Her trust in the security of her world had been shattered. Someone had had tried to KILL her. For no reason other then she was different. They didn't know her, and they had tried to kill her. For one like Lyri, that must had shattered something inside her. Something that had to be pieced back together. And maybe it would never be whole again, but she would learn and grow and be a new Lyri.
Finally Adrian answered her, looking away for a moment. "I keep thinking about a girl who died that day," he said softly. "A girl I could have protected. But instead I left her. And now she's dead."
