For Lyri it wasn't that she meant to hurt the people who loved her most but in her mind, they weren't who they were. She didn't hear the gentle voices and loving words..she only heard the bad man. The man that had killed that boy and had tried to kill her. Everyone's voice was his voice and in her mind, if she just pretended not to hear...to play dead, than he would go away. And it worked.
Until the voices tried to move her. Lyri would not let them touch her. She lashed out, hurting the hospital staff and herself with her erratic behavior.
There was only one voice that was different. Adrian's voice; but even it took a moment or two to cut through her fog of protection. Today was no different. Goodness knows how long he'd been there before she recognized the soothing tones. He was asking how she was. Blinking slowly, she did respond, her voice slightly hoarse, "It still hurts some." Turning her head, she watched the Knight instead of the window, her brow furling slightly, "Why do you look so sad, Adrian?"
