WHO: Chess and Leo WHEN: Supermoon 2021 WHERE: Library and then who knows? WHAT: Chess has never experienced anything a supermoon amplifies before. Should be fun.
The last time Francesca Rigotti had felt this uncomfortable...well, to be honest she couldn't remember ever feeling this uncomfortable. Her skin felt too tight, her head too full, and there was a heat and an ache that seemingly infiltrated every inch of her body. She imagined this is what everyone had been talking about when they described the supermoon all those months ago but Chess was confused. Why would she be feeling it now rather than before? It was true she had been across the world, visiting friends in another country, when the excitement of the last event swept through Mystic Veil. Supermoons weren't only a California phenomenon, though. Wouldn't the whole world have been affected?
Maybe Mystic Veil and its hub of ley lines and power had made all the difference.
She didn't pay attention to moon phases but felt like she would have known if another event was upon them. Not that Chess had really given it a lot of thought. She'd been holed up in the library for most of the day, not even sparing a glance at anyone who came or went. It wasn't unusual for her not to speak to many people throughout the day but whatever was going on made her feel more isolated. More exposed. Refusing to be ruled or swayed by whatever silly issue her body was apparently having, Chess had merely gritted her teeth and forced herself to stay put. She would not go find Leo. She would not make a fool of herself in front of a prince. Not when she couldn't seem to do anything right. Not even if daydreams of him, unfairly intimate ones, had plagued her more than once as she tried to focus.
Growling under her breath, she straightened her spine, determined to best whatever was happening. Chess had sheer force of will on her side but even she was beginning to wonder if there would ever be any relief from what was going on. As grateful as she'd been for the skirt she had on when the day had turned out to be hotter than most anticipated, Chess now felt like she was going to melt right where she sat. Shifting only brought more discomfort, as every brush against her skin seemed to light her skin on fire. A huff of frustration escaped her but she refused to give in. She wasn't leaving until she felt more like herself.
