there was nothing but silence for hours. Well as close as you could get to silence in a hospital room. As annoying as he probably would have found the constant beep of the machines at any other time it was oddly comforting now. It was like a drum that kept the beat which meant that the world was still spinning and there was still life to hold on to. The doctors and nurses that periodically appeared changed through the hours but they all told him the same thing. Vi would be alright. Once her body had recovered some they could add the magic into her healing to speed it up ensure little to no lasting trauma. They were still trying to reach family, but her parents were out of the country and they were having trouble finding the direct phone number for her sister. They would let him know if they managed to reach her. Honestly, Tay wouldn't be able to tell one of them from the other. He barely saw any of their faces. he had dozed once but his dream put him right back in front of that car and he woke with a start.
Now he was just sitting. Sitting next to her hospital bed and waiting. there was nothing else he could do. he was no longer staring at her face. Instead, he was staring at the tiled floor. He was still willing the whole thing to be some terrible nightmare that if he just thought about it hard enough he would wake. He would wake up in bed with Vi snuggled into him, her changing body obvious against his skin.
The soft whimper she made pulled his attention away from the speck on the tiled floor. Honestly, it took him a moment to realize she was actually awake. Her blue eyes were unfocused and confused as she stared at the ceiling.
"Hey baby," he spoke softly. He didn't want to startle her or make her move too much but he knew she needed to know he was there. "Its the hospital, Vi," he told her, taking a guess at the cause of her confusion.
