There were several moments after Vi shoved her fiance out of the way where she wasn't entirely sure what to do next. Tay was far away, but all at once the realization that the car wasn't stopping hit her like a ton of bricks. She only had a split second to glance down at the bump of her stomach, the smell of burnt rubber making her stomach lurch as the fear seemed to paralyze her and push her into action all at once. As quick as she thought she was, the car was faster. She didn't even manage to turn all the way around as she'd intended, which was the only way she could think of to try and protect her baby. The car hit her at an angle as a result, shattering her pelvis on impact.
The scream that left her was gut-wrenching, but almost immediately cut off as she lost consciousness. It was a blessing, not feeling how she smashed into the windshield before rolling violently up onto the hood. Vi's landing was less than easy to watch, for those looking on in stunned horror, and it was the impact that both cracked several of her ribs and broke her arm in two places. She was a mess of blood and scrapes as Tay turned her over slowly, but there was the slow and rattling rise and fall of her breathing to reassure him even if she didn't stir. It was shallow, and her pulse was faint, but it was there.
Once she'd been taken to the hospital, the doctors worked in a flurry to rush her into surgery and repair the extensive damage. The landing had also fractured her skull, and she had a serious concussion that was further complicated by the excessive blood loss. This wasn't just because of the internal damage, however. The pelvic injury had disrupted her uterus, and there was nothing anyone could do to save the baby. They managed to get the bleeding under control, as well as replenishing the considerable amount she'd lost, but her body very much need time unconscious to just let the healing process to really get going. Vi was unconscious for several hours, nearly an entire day, before she started to stir, and the first thing she felt was disorientation. The second was pain.
Wincing as she shifted her head, Vi whimpered softly as her eyes fluttered open. The blank white walls and tiles directly above her were not anything she recognized, and her brain was still foggy as she tried to figure out where she was.
