Being wrapped in his arms always felt like she was home and safe. But now it was so much more. it was the first time in weeks she wasn't that the fear and anxiety abated. The first time she had allowed herself to even think that they might be alright, that he could possibly forgive her and love her again. If it was up to her she would never step away from his arms. Even as her tears finally dried out she didn't want to move away. His hand moving through her hair gently and she sighed again and pressed her face into his shoulder. Adelaide bit back the sound of protest when he finally pulled back.
She looked up at him, her blue eyes held apprehension as they met his. She could see the shimmering of tears, all the pain he felt. She knew she could feel his emotions but she couldn't distinguish them from her own. His fingers moved over her cheek sending a shiver through her. She desperately missed his touch. His words though, they were the first real spike of hope she had felt. He still loved her? after everything? There were times that she couldn't believe that he had any capacity left to love her. It should have proven to her a long time ago that there would never be a time when it all just burned out. She was beginning to actually believe that now.
"I love you so much," he told him, her voice soft still but less shaky at least. "I've hurt you so much and I'm so sorry." her eyes held his. her apologies just pouring out of her. It wasn't just the secret the game had forced her to tell him. It was everything. It was years of pain she had caused him and she couldn't apologize enough.
