Nissa, Lights & Poppy | Later afternoon Day Two
Nissa insisted she hadn't told anyone and Poppy made a noise that was close to a scoff at what she thought was complete bullshit. She knew Nissa. Secrets weren't exactly her forte. To be fair it wasn't really either of theirs, not really, and yet here they were, with Poppy being the one who didn't know. Who hadn't seen it. How hadn't she seen it?! For all her jokes (which weren't really jokes) about shipping them and how they would be the perfect couple, both of them had protested so fiercely. Was it that she was so distracted with her own relationship and that whole new experience that her friends were able to sneak around behind her back?
If Poppy had examined her feelings a little more she might have realized she was jealous and insecure about the idea of them actually together. What if they didn't need her anymore? That there wasn't time for her or she'd be a third wheel? But the fae wasn't thinking of anything that was actually rational or helpful, or terribly insightful, instead she was focused on the immediate fact that her best friends had been dating for a month and hadn't told her.
But the way that Nissa softly admitted that she didn't tell anyone because she was scared it would jinx or ruin this thing with Lights made Poppy pause. And if she hadn't felt so betrayed and hurt she would have told her she understood. Because on a weird level she did. This thing with Jingi worked here, in relative privacy and secret, but if it was public, would it?
"Don't you think of all people, I would get that Nissa?" Poppy asked. "How many times have we talked about how terrified I am that this relationship with Jingi will self destruct the minute its public?" There was almost a pleading note her voice and she wiped at her eyes with the ends of her pastel sweater. Nissa's promise that she hadn't told anyone made Poppy shake her head, but it wasn't that she didn't believe her, she did. She just didn't know what to say.
Turning her eyes on Lights she asked him again, "Who have YOU told Lights?" The cat looked sheepish and mumbled that he'd told Owen, which she had already known. There was no way he hadn't told Owen.
"Killa and Bryan?" she demanded. Lights mumbled something about them walking in on them once. Poppy let out a laugh that had no mirth in it. Leaning down the fairy gathered her fallen things, shoving them back into the pastel bag. Straightening up she shook her head again.
"I'm gonna go. I just...I need time to process this." She stopped herself from making a comment about finishing what she interrupted. Turning she opened the door and left without looking back as tears fell down her cheeks.
