It was soon quite apparent that the little girl was quite dependent on Wei Jian. Still, Jiao Li said nothing, watching as her younger brother handled the situation with Qing's help. Her eyes flicked to Qing and Lucky, it was clear the two younger boys knew more then she did and she wasn't entirely sure how pleased she was with that. Not that she was upset that her brother had contact with the prince and the younger noble, although it worried her if it was found out, for the younger boys sakes. Still the eldest dragon said nothing, leading her brother into the sitting room where the young child could still see him. It was clear Lily wasn't what one would call a 'sunshine' child. There was a sadness about her that she soon understood as her brother spoke.
Dark brown eyes stayed on Wei Jian's face as he spoke, the elder sipping her tea carefully as to not burn her mouth. The confession that she was not his biological child, surprised her again and she wondered if she would even stop being surprised by the life her brother had found himself. She nodded at him gently, indicating she understood. He had taken in the child because her mother was dead. He spoke in English and Jiao Li raised an elegant brow at the statement.
"You cared deeply for her mother." This was not a question, it was a statement. Her eyes moved for Wei Jian to the silent child smiling at Lucky and Qing, but not laughing. "That child has seen tragedy. It clings to her like perfume." It was clear in Jiao Li's eyes and expression this broke her heart for the small girl. "She's so young to have lost her mother." Her voice was soft and quiet so the child wouldn't hear. Almost absently, while still looking at the pretty child, she added "You were about her age when we lost our parents."
There was more back story and Jiao Li wanted to know it, but now probably wasn't the time, not with the child so close to them and Bai Yue due back any moment. Dragging her eyes back to her younger brother she reached for his hand and held it tightly in hers.
"We'll figure it out, Wei Jian. I promise." She couldn't fail him again.
