THREAD: Cian & Rhiana
WHO: Cian & Rhiana (with Ireland) WHEN: Saturday evening: around 7:30pm WHERE: Rhia's cottage in town WHAT: Cian is stressed and upset about a case he's working on. He asks Rhiana for some advice and perhaps they define their relationship? RATING: TBD
If one were to peek into the little cottage on the outskirts of Mystic Veil, the image of the handsome young doctor seated on the soft couch, the the files and charts spread out on the coffee table before him, muttering to himself as he made half legible notes in the margins, his brow furrowed in frustration and concentration, and the beautiful nutritionist washing dishes , while she hummed to herself was the perfect slice of domestic bliss. Combine that with the collie snoring softly at the young doctor's feet and the two year old playing quietly within the watchful eye sight of both adults, only one of which her biological parent, and this scene was even more heart felt. However the young couple, wasn't exactly a couple, even if both of them still had feelings for the other. Cian was afraid of upsetting whatever this perfect piece of happiness was that he had found with his high school sweetheart, by introducing romance into their comfortable, easy friendship. And he knew he would do anything to make the beautiful baby girl sitting on the floor playing with the stuffed pony he'd given her, happy. Ireland had stolen his heart as easily as her mother had in high school so many years ago.
A soft sigh slipped from his lips, which was part frustration and part exhaustion. He'd had this case for two years now and while he'd made some headway into making the young kitsune's life more manageable, he was not pleased at the fact that he couldn't cure her. It was clear at this point the damage done to her system by not consuming human hearts as her species had been intended to, was irreparable. Cian knew he wasn't supposed to take cases so personally, but it was hard not to when he had spent the last few years at Riona's side, so invested. And he genuinely had come to care about her well being. His fellow colleagues had suggested he take a step back from her case, that he was getting too personal. It was only a month ago he'd had to tell her the devastating news that there was a timeline. His colleagues didn't think the young woman would live past thirty.
Cian leaned back in the sofa, closing his eyes, fingers pinching the bridge of his nose to stave off the headache he could feel coming on. He'd looked at the numbers, the charts, the research so many times he had it memorized. What else could he do? He'd suggested she take some time off, away from school, away from drama (like that selfish boyfriend she had been with that made Cian uneasy) and spend time at her home, with the clean air and her family. She'd taken his advice, even broken up with the boyfriend (again) to go back to Korea for the month while he tried to figure out a new approach to managing her condition. Cian had been pleased at the rumors that she was now officially dating the older idol that was always at her side. Cian had seen how much the older boy loved her, how devoted he was to her, even asking Cian for instructions on how to keep her healthy. He was what she needed and part of Cian hoped Ryun's support might be the missing key to helping all this. He knew it was foolish and romantic, but it didn't change his foolish wish.
He felt when Rhia sat on the other end sofa, and he opened his eyes to smile tiredly at her. "Thanks for dinner again," he said softly. Adjusting his position he shifted to angle himself more towards her.
"I know I'm not supposed to discuss patients with anyone, but I could really use a non-medical opinion. And since she's technically already been to see you about dietary needs, perhaps if I give you more information, we can help her more then we have been." At her nod, he picked up a few of the files and handed them to her.
"Hyuna Riona," he said softly. "Is a kitsune." He let that sink in, most people didn't know they even existed. And for the world famous K-pop queen to be one, was also rather stunning news. "As you know, they are supposed to consume human hearts. But her parents didn't allow that, she grew up without that. Its done irreversible damage to her system." He let Rhia read the files and charts in her hands before he continued.
"I can't fix this, Rhia. She'll never live the hundreds of years she was meant to. At this rate we'll be lucky to have her make it to thirty." It was obvious how upset this made him. "But I can't give up, she came to me because I'm one of the only doctors using magic with medicine, but its such a new field I feel as if I'm missing something." Rhia being a witch and fae was much more knowledgable about magic he might have missed, or not thought about at all.
