Who: Mackenzie and Noel
When: Following GB post
Where: Noel's room
What: GB causes major fallout
Mackenzie's stomach twisted in to knots as she read the journal. Nothing good ever came of GB's post but it could only be worse with her on a new war path. Seeing her name linked with Noel twice and Arcadias being accused of what he was only deepened her sense of foreboding. Her boyfriend already hated Noel, despite her doing her best to make sure he didn’t know about what had happened during the snow storm and doing everything possible to avoid Noel as much as she could. He would be livid at the implications the GB was making about both of them and she knew only too well what happened when Arcadias got mad.
She had already been in his room when the journal had come through, otherwise she would have just tried to avoid him. Let him work off some of the anger before she saw him. But it wasn't possible. Her timid attempt at making an excuse to go back to her room had only made him angrier. Mackenzie knew it was coming as she watched it build up in him. Arcadias never lashed out of nowhere. He had far too much control for that. There was always a buildup. It was usually subtle to someone who didn’t know him well but she was well practiced as seeing the signs. But this, this was bad enough that someone who had never met him would have been able to see his anger before it blew. The fact that she had never seen him like that before terrified her.
If she hadn’t already realized that this would far worse for her than normal, she would have known after the first blow. His hand swung and struck her across her beautiful face. Arcadias NEVER hit her face. The bruises he caused were always able to be hidden and never too many. Tonight the blows didn’t stop. The magical soundproofing he had done on his room prevented anyone for hearing her cries or thuds as he threw her against the walls. As she fell to the floor she pleaded with him to stop. Even on the ground the blows didn’t stop coming. This was it, surely he was actually going to kill her this time. Out of nowhere he stopped. He stared down at her, his eyes so cold, before he landed another kick to her side and walked out the door.
It took a while before she regained enough of her breath to pick herself up off the floor. There was not a single part of her body that didn’t scream in pain. Each breath came with searing pain from what she was sure was a few broken ribs. It was impossible to identify all her injuries now. She needed to focus on getting out of his room before he came back. She didn’t even stop to put shoes on her sock covered feet before she stumbled out the door. Her golden blond hair did the trick to cover her blood and tear streaked face. She wasn't headed to her own room. As terrified as she was to have someone see her like this she was even more terrified to be alone. Arcadias could come looking for her when he found she had left. Mackenzie normally stayed to try to fix whatever had set him off. She was going to Noel. Which really was the last place she should go but it was also where she would feel safest.
The hallways were relatively quiet. She barely saw anyone and if anyone saw her they would barely recognize the school golden girl. The pain had her hunched over, which helped to keep her messy hair in her face. She knocked lightly as she reached his door to no response. Out of pure desperation, she tried the doorknob which was mercifully unlocked. She knew she shouldn’t let herself in to his room, she had spent the last several months avoiding any conversation with him at all, but there was nothing else for her to do. She quietly slipped in to his room to find it empty. She wasn’t sure if she was received or disappointed that she hadn’t walked in on him sleeping or just refusing to answer the door. Closing the door behind her, Mackenzie settled herself in to his comfortable armchair. She winced in pain as she made herself as small as possible in the chair, silently letting tears fall down her cheeks.
