WHO: Hannah & Jefferson (+ Jamie!)
WHEN: Saturday, During the Blizzard
WHERE: Movie Theater in Halifax
WHAT: Hannah takes Jamie to the movies and gets trapped with her ex. Whoops.
RATING: PG (Unless Hannah starts up swearing from stress, then it'll be PG-13)
STATUS: Closed!
Since it was a Saturday, and Hannah didn't have extra classes or her internship to think about, she decided to spend some quality time with her four year old son. Jamie had been asking if they could go see the new movie Norm of the North that had been out for about a week. The previews hadn't looked unbearable, and she really couldn't deny her boy many things (that were within her powers), so she'd agreed with a smile. The forecast calling for a light flurry of flakes didn't really bother her. It wasn't going to get that bad, after all .Surely they could survive an hour and a half. They'd make it back before dinner, which Hannah had promised him would be his favorite: grilled cheese and tomato soup. Jamie loved to eat it on cold days, of which this was definitely one.
She had dressed simply enough, bundling herself up in a coat and woolen boots to ensure extra warmth. Hannah had no plans to see anyone of importance, not that there was even anyone to see, so it didn't really matter. She'd just spent too much time with Baja and Blair to allow herself to look like a mess when leaving the house. After bundling Jamie up too, they'd headed into town without wasting another second. Jamie was at the age where he was fun to talk to, especially since he was so precocious, and there was a lot of laughter and singing along to the radio during the drive. He was well-behaved too, which she tried daily to remind herself could change at any moment if she started going completely soft. But at the theater, he made no noise and threw no tantrums, and the movie practically flew by. Hannah didn't hate it at all, which was a big deal with some of the shows and movies they put out for kids nowadays. It was funny and entertaining, which was just what they both needed.
The trouble came when they tried to emerge from the theater after the credits finished. Hannah could tell just by looking out the windows that the storm was much worse than anyone had predicted, and already the parking lot was so covered that cars much bigger than her own were having difficulties getting out. "Cool!" Jamie exclaimed, which was a stark contrast to her reaction of biting her lip and wishing she were the type to use expletives. Her coat was still slung over her shoulder, though she had already pulled her hat over her loose copper locks. "Look mama! Those kids are making snow angels. Can I go?" Shaking her head, Hannah readjusted his jacket with her own, sighing. "No baby. It's cold out and you're not dressed to play out there. You'll get soaked." Her tone was almost absent as her mind began to race through possibilities. Was there anyone she could call? Should they wait? Could anyone even get here if she did call?
Shaking her head again, she told him to sit at one of the tables only a few steps away, making sure he was out of the way as more and more people from outside sought refuge indoors. "Stay right at that table, please, while mommy figures out how we're getting home." Or if we are, she thought worriedly.
