"I did, but I had to see you," she answered honestly, which is one thing Lia always was with her soulmate. It was the one reason their relationship worked so well. Neither of them pretended, neither of them tried to hide. Everything was out in the open. She could trust Onyx with any and everything. He would always take care of her, always support her.
The way he held her now made her feel like she didn't deserve it.
Returning his kiss, Lia tried to slow her heart and calm her stomach. She could feel the weight of his gaze on her, could hear the concern in his soft tone. There was no room for glossing over the truth. Nyx could sense the disruption in her, just like he always could. They were soulmates, something that hit the mermaid with startling recognition as she thought of how suddenly Audrey had turned up at her room just when J.A needed her. How had she missed that?
Shaking the memories away, she bit her lip and focused on the task at hand. She had her arms around Nyx, as if worried he might try to run, but even his closeness wasn't making this any easier. The sheer love and devotion in his eyes made Lia feel like someone was squeezing all the air out of her lungs, and for the first time in her life, she was ashamed.
"Nyx, mon coeur, mon amour," she started, keeping electric eyes on his so she wouldn't lose her nerve. "I'm pregnant..." The confession tumbled out, quietly, as her lip trembled. She was waiting for him to ask the loaded question, for him to realize he'd been gone too long for it to have anything to do with him.
