The movement was painful, but Annie was honestly too out of it to really notice. Soft whimpers were her only sounds as each shift jostled something or other, until Rayce finally got himself straightened with her in his arms. Her head was spinning from the change in perception and movement, making her blink in an effort to keep her eyes open. Annie was seconds away from letting the comforting blackness claim her again when she heard a soft urgent voice. Rayce.
Murmuring, which would've been adorably similar to a grumble had the situation been less severe, she turned her face into his chest and sighed. "It hurts," she stated, voice as sulky as her face, though even arguing that little bit was helping Rayce's cause. His voice was an anchor as he carried her to the hospital wing, which kept Annie from succumbing to the nap she so desperately wanted.
Once he set her down, she nodded a little, wincing as the movement disrupted her head again. Watching as he disappeared around a corner, she let her head rest against the wall behind her, eyes slowly moving in an unfocused fashion around the room until he reappeared. The touch of his hand startled Annie back to full alertness, and she could only nod again as the nurse began to ask her questions.
The next hour was spent evading outright telling the woman what had happened, instead Annie glossed over the part about being deliberately dropped. She cast fearful eyes to Rayce every time the nurse turned away, and eventually she calmed as she realized he wouldn't betray her. Annie couldn't explain why she wanted to keep it secret, not with people bustling around them, but something in her eyes spoke to more than just what he had walked in on.
When they finally finished, it was suggested the mermaid stay overnight to ensure her concussion was dealt with properly and monitored. Looking to Rayce, her eyes pleaded again, though this time she spoke to echo her thoughts. "Please. He can take me back to my room. I can't stay here..." Annie wasn't going to bring up rehearsal given the broken leg and dislocated shoulder she'd received to go along with her head injury. There was to be no dancing for a few weeks, which had her inwardly cursing at the amount that would set her back. This wasn't the time for that, however. Her focus now was getting out of here.
"I have a fear of hospitals, and there's tons of people who need this bed more than me. I promise my..." Trailing off as she looked at Rayce again, she swallowed back any labels that would betray her continued feelings for him. "Rayce will look after me," she finished after a pause, hoping against hope that he would. He couldn't leave her here....could he?
